Notes From Coastal Adopters

Hi Tiffany

I adopted Leo (aka Coach) in October 2006. I just wanted to let you know that he is doing great!

I have an art gallery in San Francisco, so he goes to work with me...definitely a mama's boy! I've attached a couple of pics of him.

Thanks for all the hard work you Coastal German Shephard does.

Regards

~Rajinder~

Hi Sanika,

I hope that you are doing well. Sorry that I have not been in touch but things are always so busy. I just have to tell you that Brody and I spent our first Valentines Day together yesterday and it was amazing. As you can see from the pictures he tired himself out with all of his adventures and presents. Sanika, I fall more in love with him everyday.

We still go to training and we will start agility training when the next class begins (I might as well put his high jumping skills to good use). Brody is so smart but most of all so very loving. I hope that you can see him soon because you would not believe how much he has changed. I guess it goes to show you just how much a little love (maybe a lot of love) can change things.

Everyone who meets Brody falls in love with him. I think that my veterinarian and his staff love Brody as much as I do. It is sad to think of all the dogs that won't get a chance for someone to fall in love with them. I hope that you enjoy the pictures. Thank you for everything you do especially for saving my sweet, beautiful Brody!

Love,

Ginamarie

Hello Everyone at Coastal German Shepherd Rescue!

I wanted to give an update on our wonderful boy Nikolai. We adopted him 3 months ago and kept his name Nikolai, but we call him Nik for short. He is one of the best dogs I have ever come across in my life. He is always happy, loves to play, and is very very gentle with our year old son!

Nik's favorite place to go is the dog beach, where he goes every single weekend! It is so wonderful to see him running and playing and just plain happy! He is a perfect fit in our little family! He loves our kitties, but wishes they would play with him more!

Thank you guys so much for doing what you do, and helping us find such a perfect match!

Thank You!

The Talley Family

Hi Jordan,

I though you might want to know how are two babies (Dash & Mishka) are doing. The answer is VERY WELL! They are truly the joys of our family and we just love them dearly. They are quite the pair and I can't imagine them every being without each other.

I wanted to tell you as well that Dolly is not hindered at all by missing her foot. She has gained so much strength in her back leg over the last few months. She can jump up on the back wall and props on it to jump on the side of the chair to greet me. She runs and plays better that Dash sometimes. They are definitely two peas in a pod and I would be happy to share their story with the visitors to the website.

I have included a couple pictures that I hope you will share with Teresa and the other San Diego Coastal volunteers.

I hope all is well with you and thanks again for bringing these two most wonderful babies into our lives!

Dearest Sanika,

Words cannot express the love we have for our "Luna". She was "Kenya", when we rescued her. She has truly been a blessing to our home and our family. When we first brought her home, she was timid, afraid, had no self esteem, and never a tail wag, always had a sad expression on her face.

Today, she is the happiest girl, I have ever seen! We go to the dog park once or twice per week. She loves every dog, and LOVES to run, and chase the ball, we have to work on bringing it back! She has her own special spot on the couch, even though she has a comfy bed of her own, she LOVES our baby Joaquin. Sometimes you would think that he was her baby. She is so protective over him, doesn't like it when people rough house with him, and always has to be next to him.

She and our Pekingese "Nini" are the best of friends now. At first, Nini wanted nothing to do with her, now they chase each other around the house in the evenings, like to go on walks together, bask in the sunshine in the backyard, and guard the house together, They are sisters now.

Luna also is very protective over our family, and the household. When people come to the door, she has a scary bark, and she means business, then she can go from guard dog mode, to Joaquin's giant teddy bear mode in a snap! She has a tremendous amount of patience with him. She is in obedience training right now, although she really doesn't need it, but it doesn't hurt, to go anyway.

She is a spoiled rotten girlie girl, and well deserved. I don't know what happened before, she was rescued by you guys, then by us. All I know is that she is a forgiving creature, that got her second chance at life. She smiles at us, wags her tail all day, and loves to snuggle now and then. I would like to say Thank You for all you do, for these helpless animals, and if it wasn't for you, we would never know love like the love we have for Luna. She has her forever home.

Sincerely,

The Bevia Family
Laguna Niguel, CA

Hey Jennifer,

Sandy and I adopted Gandolf (we renamed him Lucas though). I wanted to send you some pics and update on him. He is a very smart boy, but I do think he is younger than first assessed, but he has definitely seen a hard short life. He had a bit of separation anxiety but Sandy and I kept pretending to leave and trained him on what he should and shouldn't do when we're not here.

The cat issue has almost been completely resolved as now when he sees one of the cats he avoids them. When we took him to the vet to get his stitches removed they all commented on how much better and brighter he already looks after only a week with us. I'm very happy we adopted him.

Hope everything is well with you and your canine companions.

Rob

Hi Sanika,

I thought you might like to know how Darby’s doing. Here are some pictures we took with our neighbors at our dog park this morning.

We got him a “no pull” type harness. In one day, he learned to walk with us without pulling. He starts basic class on Saturday.

He’s just a delightful lovable lug. He has no trace of aggression at all and is happy to see every dog he meets. Some of our smaller neighbors (e.g. the dachshund) want to make sure he respects their turf, but he takes rebuffs completely in stride. We are teaching him to chase a ball (the easy part) and to return it (the hard part). Frankie is still not completely comfortable, but that’s not Darby’s fault. He’s a perfect gentleman.

Thanks so much for all you and the other volunteers do. This is one that is working really well.

Hi Encinitas Coastal Volunteers,

I just wanted to drop you a line and tell you THANK YOU! I hope you remember Steve and I. We are the folks that adopted Kaydee and Thorne (we now call him Jessie), last October. Both Kaydee and Jessie are doing GREAT! They are extremely spoiled and the entire household revolves around them.

I know you were concerned about Thorne's (now Jessie) over protective behavior. You were right, as soon as we got home, he really showed that he was very protective of me. He charged Steve and show his teeth and scared the heck out of us. We were very stern with him and gave him lots of love and pets and attention -- and now he is the biggest baby boy in the world.

We love our dogs so much and thanks to you and your team to make it possible for us to have them! Please tell Jennifer how wonderful her work was with Thorne. He was a big muscle of a German Shepherd and NOW he is even bigger from running and playing -- they are both so beautiful.

Our best to you always and with much appreciation. Here they are - playing by the pool. They are the greatest addition to our home. Thank you and everyone at Coastal GSR and an extra "Hi" from Jessie to Jennifer!!!

ALWAYS -
Jessie, Kaydee, Steve and Karin Churchill

Hi Sanika,

Bose is loving his new home. We couldn’t ask for a more lovable puppy. It’s true he loves to be cuddled!

We decided to name him, “Marley” after the popular musician since our cats name is “Jimi”. They are still getting to know each other but are well on their way to being good buddies. Here are a few pictures of him hanging out in his new backyard taking in some sunshine.

Thank you for everything, I will send more pictures as he gets bigger.

I just wanted to send you a picture of Jinx (adopted Sept '07) and Lindy (aka London, adopted May '08) playing in the snow at Big Bear. They are both wonderful dogs and Lindy has completely recovered from her pelvic osteotomy surgery she had at the specialty hospital in June. She is a wild, but extremely lovable girl! She did well in basic obedience training thanks to the solid foundation her foster mom gave her before I got her. Even though there is a four year age difference, these gals love to romp, play, go for walks and go to the dog park. They are terrific with the grandkids, my elderly mother, and my old shepherd mix, Cody, who is now 15 and still doing remarkably well for a 100 pounder. Thanks for doing such a great job and have a wonderful 2009!

Hi Encinitas Coastal Volunteers!

I just wanted to send another update on the dog you knew as "Sebastian"! Our "Tucker" is doing wonderful! He is such a wonderful addition to our family! He enjoyed the holidays, especially his Christmas presents! We went on our first family hike yesterday! Tucker is usually terrified of water, but loved wading through the creek and even went for a swim in a pond! It was a lot of fun for all of us! I have attached a few pics of the adventure! His check-up with the vet went well too! He has gained another 4 pounds, which brings his total weight gain up to 8 pounds! His coat is looking great and is shiny and healthy! Graham has even commented on how great Tucker looks now! :)

We hope all of you are doing well and we hope the Shepherds still looking for homes find their perfect forever home soon!

Thanks so much,
Nikki, Bryan and Tucker Hendrix

Hello Victoria

I hope you, Sydney and Hanna had a wonderful New Year. Great news about Mercedes. I am so glad she will be OK.

I took some pictures at our doggy play date. four dogs two teenagers, two pre-teen and one seven year old to boot. My girlfriend has the Bouvier de Flanders named K-Vada (6 th months) and the small brown puppy is a cocker named Kolula. It is hard to believe that Kolual and Bear are the same age. He just loves her and lets her jump and crawl all over him.

Bear is doing really well. He enjoys going for walks, is house broken and games of tug-of war. He still sleeps in the crate but next week will be sleeping on his bed. He is quite the talker and will give you a kiss when asked.

We wish you and yours a wonderful joy filled year.

Chantae

Beth,

Bismarck is doing GREAT!

I found out he's allergic to chicken, so he's now on Evo red meat dog food diet. He really likes it, but my wallet doesn't ! So now my biggest trial is trying to keep him out of the cats food. He gets along great with the cats also, however they're "STILL" getting used to a hopping giant.

He absolutely loves going to the dog park to play ball, I'm sending you a couple pics of him in "ball playing mode".

When I got him, he was a bit on the skinny side, as you could see his ribs and butt bones. However I'm happy to say he's filled out nicely and we're maintaining his weight so he doesn't get too large, as I imagine it wouldn't be good to be overweight and have only 1 front leg.

Anyhow, ere are the pictures! I can't thank you guys at Coastal enough for bringing him into my life! He is such a great guy.

Happy 2009 to our wonderful Coastal GS Rescue Family!

It's been about seven months since we rescued Busta, formerly known as Curly. We made a trip this weekend to the event in Aliso Viejo, and it was great to see some of you. It made us realize how happy you are to reacquaint with Busta since he found his permanent home. With that, we wanted to send you an update with pictures of Busta and his wonderful life. Yes, WONDERFUL!!! He always has company at home, and when no one is home, he spends his days working with the crew at the Long Beach Fire Department or at Doggy Day Care. He really is a spoiled little guy. Not only does he keep busy at work and socially with his buddies at the various Southern California dog parks, he has also become quite a world traveler. In the pictures below, you'll see that he has taken a weekend flight to Seattle where he experienced snow for the first time. And he did a week long road/surf trip down to Baja Mexico where he enjoyed sunrises and sunsets over the Sea of Cortez.

He is still slim as can be, but believe it or not, he has gained wait, at least ten pounds! Not sure where his slim physique comes from some speculate Grey Hound, others say Doberman. We are beginning to get curious and are considering one of those DNA tests to uncover the mystery.

Thanks again for all you do. We continue to do our part to spread the word about Coastal when we meet people who have an interest in acquiring a GSD. Until next time, take care and keep us posted on events. We'll always do our best to show our support. Please forward this email to anyone who may be interested in seeing the wonderful life of Busta.

We thought you might like a few pictures of Zakara's first camping trip. She is a great camping dog.

She slept very well in the trailer on her dog bed and had a lot of fun going on hikes with us. She also enjoyed the other dogs, although not all of them appreciated her as much. She still has too much puppy for some of the dogs and was too big for others.

We are having a lot of fun with her and are so glad she is part of our family. We signed up for dog training starting in a couple of weeks so that we can continue to make her a great dog.

Anne and Mike

Hi Tracey and Diane,

Edna,Garred (my Grandson) and I would like to thank you for introducing Nina to us. She has been a wonderful companion for all of us. I can assure you that she will receive the best care and love that is possible from our family.

The picture on top of the mountain is taken on Iron Mountain in the Poway area with our grandson. Nina has already been on four hikes with him since our adoption took place.

We will keep you updated as to how she is doing.

Thanks again,
Ernie Brusalis

Hi Encinitas Coastal Volunteers,

We adopted Darby in late July, 2008. After 5 months with us, we can honestly say that she is the perfect dog for us. She is wonderful with Erica - age 9, and Joe- age 6. She is always looking out for them and Erica is her "big sister" - no one gets Darby to play with them the way Erica does! She comes to me for soft pets and kisses and treats. But she and Troy have a true love affair going. Troy takes her walking in the canyon every morning for at least 1/2 hour. He lets her chase rabbits and birds, and she plays fetch with him. She plays nicely with the other dogs who come to our park, and was the star in her first obedience class.

We get so many compliments on Darby's behavior and the way she looks. People just can't believe that she was a rescue - "Who would give away a dog like this?" is what we hear all of the time.

She has become fiercely loyal, and does her best to protect us from anyone who dares to walk on the sidewalk when she is inside, the UPS man, the mailman, etc...(my husband's friends call her Cujo because she has such a tremendous bark.) But she settles quickly and accepts anyone that we do.

We have had several large parties - with lots of kids, and she has been great.

When Debbie came to our house for the Coastal inspection, she told us that Darby was a diamond in the rough and would continue to blossom. She was so right! Every day, she gets better and better, and the level of trust and love between us and Darby continues to grow.

I have attached some pictures of what Darby looks like now. She is really beautiful, and her eyes have lost the shadows that used to pass across them.

She weighs about 10-15 pounds more than when she was rescued - most of it is muscle!

Hello Coastal German Shepherd Rescue,

We, the Bonnie family, just thought we would give you an update regarding how Spirit's doing. Spirit just spent her first Christmas up in Washington state, where Justin and myself (Shayla) visited our families. She loves romping around the house and gets lots of love and attention. She is currently playing with the older family dog, duchess, a black lab, for the Christmas holiday. But at home, in Port Hueneme, Calif., her usual playmate is Andre', Shayla's one-and-a-half year old black cat; ironically, the two love each other.

Spirit is four months old, 25 lbs, 32" long, and 19" high. She is VERY social especially with smaller children. Although it took us a very long time to teach her how to not jump up on them. She loves to be held by Justin; she is definitely a lap dog. She loves chewing on her bones and playing with her toys. For some reason she barks up a storm at any statues or fire hydrants - we say she has a "fire-hydrant" complex. I think it is rather funny that Spirit warms up to all visitors in a jiffy, but she'll bark her head off at anything that doesn't move; she'll make an interesting watch dog.

Justin's golden retriever, Lady, recently passed away. So I thought it was time I got him a new puppy. He has talked about wanting a German shepherd ever since I met him, specifically a black one. Luckily, I went to town on my internet searching and found Spirit. She was my one-year wedding anniversary present to Justin and a wonderful blessing she has turned out to be. She is very loving, warm, obedient, and loyal. She won't part from Justin for a second. And even better, she was born on August 21st, the same day as our wedding anniversary, November 21st!

She is a very special dog and my husband is a very special man. The two make a wonderful pair. We can't wait to see her grow up. She is SO BIG for four months old - we love her very much and Andre is happy to have a playmate.

We've attached a picture of Justin, Myself (Shayla), & Spirit for the Happy Tails page. We'll definitely keep you posted on how she's doing!

Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Shayla & Justin Bonnie

Hi Debbie,

Everything is great! You would not believe how much this girl is learning. She comes when called from afar now. It's wonderful. The girls have officially renamed her Caio (pronounced Cah-yo) short for coyote. Surprisingly, she acts like it has been her name all along although I think it's because it ends with an "o".

The party on Sunday was good although a bit overwhelming for her with 20 kids. She got a little scared when there were too many trying to play with her so we had to have a powwow with the kids on how to play calmly. Still she was very gentle and only ran away. She hid under the table where Joe and I were so I took her for a short walk and some quite time in the front yard and she was back to her hyper-playful self.

Otherwise, knock on wood, she hasn't chewed up anything else and she's been such fun. Joe is so funny too. He'll complain that she sheds and drools and tracks dirt in the house... and then he'll take her outside and play fetch for an hour and come back in and feed her cheese and talk about how cute she is. I actually have a video of him dancing with her. She's grown on him big time.

Michelle

Hi Teresa,

Jasmine is doing great! Trish enrolled her in Sit Means Sit and she's making progress with strangers. She's loves her new home, and she gets along great with the other dogs...but Jasper is definitely her favorite.

Their ritual is to play first thing every morning when they wake up and all throughout the day. Jasmine loves to play with all the toys and has been very well behaved.

She has no problem making herself comfortable on the bed every night when we sleep, but we don't mind.

She's a great fit for us, and we love her!
Best regards,

Jarrid

Hi Lisa,

Here are some pictures of Benson just "hanging out". The group shot of the three dogs was taken yesterday when they all got home from the groomers and have their cute bandanas and bows on.

Benson did great on the ride over to the groomers. He only barked a few times! He gets better and better everyday. I can't believe it has only been two weeks.

We just love him!

Kim

Zeus's succcess story.
Watch his inspiring video. Here you will see the full circle of what Rescue is all about! Zeus's journey has been documented in the vidoe below. It begins with him being saved from the shelter, show the the angels who helped him along the way and the family who has adopted him.

Hi Tiffany,

Just wanted to send you a quick e-mail to let you know that we are completely in love with Myra! She is doing great and seems to be acclimating well to our family and routine. She gets two square meals a day and lots of walks.
She loves to hang out with us in the front yard on weekends doing projects like washing the car or fixing the fence.

She loves to roll in the grass at her many parks, 3 to be exact, and she also loves to bite at the hose when we are spraying anything!

She is so sweet and gets along with everyone dogs and people, just like you said! Thanks again for all of your help! We definitely feel not only are we all happy with her but she seems very happy with us. She is energetic at meals, loves her walks, loves to chase toys and play tug of war, and she sleeps peacefully every night at the foot of our bed! I think she is definitely a success story!

Much Thanks,
Christine, Doug, Robby, Brandon and Myra (Simone) Dillard
(my older son chose her middle name)

Hi Beth:

We adoped him from you on 7/12/08 from you at the Aliso Viejo Petsmart adoption event.

I wanted to give you an update on Carter.....his new name is Duke and he is actually younger than anyone thought...more like 10-12 months according to our vet. He just had really dirty teeth from being on the run.

He is doing fabulous and is so sweet tempered. He is in his third week of Obedience Training and doing fantastic!! He has grown a little bit and is filling out nicely to where you can no longer see his ribs or hip bones. He enjoys his basket full of toys, a walk every morning and lots of yummy treats at bedtime.

I have attached a couple of pictures that my parents took of him while we were staying at their house for your adopted page. One is of him on the grass in the backyard and the other is of him fitting his big body into the tiny little dog bed that belongs to my parents shih tzu.

Enjoy!

Dear Tina and Beth,

We're celebrating Montana's 2nd birthday, and our first anniversary of becoming a family of three again, so we thought we'd give you a little report and pictures.

When we first met Montana (then: Queenie) last year she didn't answer to any name, she didn't know a single command, and she had never had a toy--apparently her only toys used to be empty water bottles in the back yard where she was tied up for the first year of her life. Even so, she was a trusting, friendly soul, but terribly emaciated.

Today Montana is a proud, healthy, happy young lady who knows her commands, but retains her self-reliant nature. It is still obvious that she has lived her first year without relating to human language, so she'll probably never be the word whiz that our Rowdie was. Rowdie knew 200 words! But Montana's mind is still developing, she is learning all the time, and she still has that sunny confidence that must have carried her through neglect and deprivation during her first year.

Her favorite activity is playing with her friends at the dog park, but she also likes to just hang out with her humans, and go for rides in the car. She has developed the natural GS instinct for protecting the home territory, with a deep bark that everyone who lives along our canyon is by now familiar with!

You have helped bring a new love into our lives after the bleak first 6 months without our Rowdie. Montana is a joy for the eyes, and our hearts soar when we see her running toward us in the park, or doing voluntary "guard duty" out on the deck above the canyon. And her cheerful companionship is priceless.

Thanks so much to CGS for all that you do!

Best regards,
Nina, Craig and Montana

PS As you probably remember, we wouldn't have been able to adopt her if it hadn't been for your flexibility and understanding, because we were going on vacation the day after we met her. Thank you for taking such good care of her in the interim, and giving us peace of mind so we were able to come back from vacation to our new family member! We are eternally grateful for your help!

Hi Beth,

Thank you for sending Keeno's AKC papers. It's pretty cool to see the names of his ancestors.

Keeno is doing great. We absolutely love him. We have a park around the corner from our house and he's met lots of dogs but two who he really likes. They are both German Sheppards. When they see each other it's like their old long lost friends.

I took him to Dog Beach today; it was his second time there. He doesn't like the water very much but he got closer to it this time than the last time. He is such a joy to walk and run with. He helped me pick out his beds at Petco! We put one in the living room and one in our bedroom. He doesn't care about the cats and they are starting to not care about him either.

Mark works for Public Works Monday through Friday 6 am to 4 pm with every other Friday off. I work for Huntington Beach Police Department Monday through Thursday 4:30 pm to 3 am. So Keeno is never home alone and he is getting lots of walks. Mark has to lock the restrooms at Central Park at 7:30 every night and Keeno has made this task a lot more enjoyable for him, sometimes they make a stop here at my work to say hi.

I cannot thank you enough for the work you do, for saving Keeno, and for letting us adopt him. We are so grateful and feel so lucky. He is an absolute joy and everyday is so fun with him around. I still frequent your website and am amazed by the new arrivals that never seem to end. &n bsp; Thank you again for everything! I will keep in touch.

Nadia

Hi Teresa,

Well, the kids celebrated their first birthday on July 17 (vet estimated their birthday). They have become really good dog citizens in the short three months we’ve had them. They are good with other dogs and loveable to humans. But they are great watch dogs too!

We’re all in training, and I think that in the near future I will be able to walk with both of them side by side on leashes. Right now, they have to be taken out separately; otherwise we’re fighting the dominance factor. Singly, they are perfect. Gus even walks with a backpack – and he is so proud when he walks using it! I’m preparing him for hikes.

Ruby is as sweet as ever. She goes through a little anxiety when I take her brother out, but she doesn’t look back when it’s her turn! She has too many dog friends to say hello to in the neighborhood.

They’ve taken to their new home, almost as much as I’ve taken them into my heart. I thank the rescue for bringing them into my life.

Enjoy the photos of the pair.
Sincerely,
Nita and Chris

Hi Beth,

I just wanted to send you some pictures of Bella after last night's graduation from Puppy Class.

The little 12lb puppy formerly known has Abby has grown into a beautiful 50lb Bella at just 5 months!

She is a delight and I am so glad to have found her.

Thank you and your organization for all the great work you have done.

Nancy Seidler

Hi Beth,

We adopted Astro, who's new name is Jude and here are some pictures of him with his new friend Kiya.

Jude really adopted us, he jumped right into our truck bed and walked all the way to the back and laid down, he wasn't moving for anything. When we adopted him we were told he was in a kill shelter and had not eaten in about a week, but I'm happy to say that he is eating now and becoming healthier and healthier everyday.

Jude and his new friend Kiya go on two walks a day and he follows Kiya around everywhere! They get along great, Jude has really grown on her as well as the rest of us. He is a great dog with a great personality and loves to sing and talk...we are happy to have him in our home!

Hi Beth,

I apologize all over the place for not communicating sooner. My communication skills are right up there with my picture taking skills. Every single day I vow to take pictures of Rio to send to you, and well, so much for that. As you can see, he is recovering beautifully from his surgery. He is putting almost all of his weight on that leg now, and doesn't seem to have any pain in that area at all. He still can't lift his leg, but I might want to take advantage of that as long as I can. He is slowly gaining confidence; still somewhat reluctant to bark at visitors, but being a GSD, I'm convinced the guard dog is in him and will eventually prevail. His appetite still isn't great (except for people food and cat food), but I won't give in to him, so weight gain is slow but steady. His hair is growing back nicely, and in another month, I don't think there will be any evidence of surgery.

He loves the dog park and playing with other dogs, and holds his own when the bigger dogs try to dominate. I don't want to baby him, but still a little nervous about the fractured pelvis, so we limit our trips there to about twice a week.. He made his first trip to the River last week, and did better than expected. He rides great in the truck and the boat, loves the water, and especially the golf cart! Unfortunately, it was just too hot for him to be outside as much as he wanted.

I kept saying I couldn't wait for him to be able to be a puppy again, and now I realize that I probably could have waited much longer. He is a PUPPY, by every sense of the word - chasing and tormenting the cats, chewing, digging and wanting to play constantly - I think he has more energy in one day than I've had my entire life. Training is going pretty well - every once in awhile he wakes up and acts like he has totally forgotten everything! Thankfully, we were ready for the puppy syndrome, and by comparison to the last one, he is very good. Despite all of his puppy faults, we love him dearly, and can't imagine life without him. Thank you again for everything, and especially everything you continue to do.

Take Care,
Terri & Greg Jacobs

Hi Tiffany

More progress! Mitzi is totally comfortable now and doing so well! She even got a little playful with a ball last night, which is the first time that I've seen her get spunky. She met a little beagle that wandered into our garage last night and she did great with her as well.

She's walking with confidence on our walks and seems to be getting stronger rather quickly. She still limps a little, but a lot less than last week. We couldn't be happier to have her in our lives! I think that she likes her new home too. As you can see, the boys LOVE her and she loves sleeping in their bunk bed.

Take care,
Christina Thomas

Teresa,

I just wanted to give you a update on Tanner. Tomorrow is 1 month since we adopted him. He is so perfect for us. He is such a good dog and loves everyone. He and Lilac are two peas in a pod and perfect for each other. They are very much alike. She was never able to play with Panzer so she is in love with Tanner. She caught his kennel cough but we got her treated right away and they are both doing much better now. I am waiting till she is done with her antibiotics and then I can take them to the dog park. If you look at the photo you can see the happiness and love in their eyes and faces.

They are inseparable and it is just so perfect. What a match. You said you were good at matching people up to the dogs, but Tanner is so much more than a perfect match. He is exactly what we needed. He needed us as much. He is about his full weight now and his black on his back glistens like gloss. He looks so great you almost wouldn't recognize him! I am in shock each day that he was almost put down. Can I contact the person who found him and thank her or him?

When they are both better we plan on bringing them to Pet Smarts to show him off. I still need to return that inflatable collar. I bought 2 for him and will donate the one that I bought that was too small.

I would like to thank you for him too. So many pieces of this puzzle fit so perfectly in that it worked. If you had known he had kennel cough he wouldn't have been neutered. He wouldn't have been up for adoption that day at that perfect time. As I told you he was a answer to a prayer. Loosing 2 beloved German Shepherds in 1 year is almost too much to bear. But my husband and I say now that we have rebuilt our German Shepherd family. We just didn't expect it to be this wonderful.

Thank you again Teresa.

Sincerely,
Nick, Bonnie, Tanner & Lilac Turano

Dear Beth,

Here are some pics of Reid (or 'Miss Weed' or 'Weedy', depending on how goofy she's behaving).

She's settled in wonderfully and is by far the most well behaved dog I've ever had.

She likes to chase me around the yard and has kinda figured out what 'fetch' is, but her favorite thing to do is thrash her plush duck.

She still sticks her front paws in her water when she drinks, and makes me cringe when she dives headlong at a run through her dog door.

Hi Beth,

I wanted to send you some recent pictures of Sonny (aka Zeus) and our family to post on your website. He is truly the best catch we could EVER ask for.

It is so strange but I can feel his appreciation and thankfulness as we have bonded beyond belief. I have been talking about your rescue group with friends and family in the hopes that some day another GSD will find a well deserved home.

I would love to see you guys some time on one of the events – are you planning any in Temecula in April or so?

With appreciation for all you guys do for this wonderful breed,
Monica Bumgarner

Hi Sanika,

I hope that you are doing well. Thank you so much for the support that you have given me and Brody, we are doing much better since I last talked to you. He really is wonderful!

We spent the whole day yesterday at the park and the beach. He was awake all day and was so tired that I could not convince him to take his nightly walk with me. I love him so much already and I think he loves me too! I am trying to take very good care of him. I was so glad to see that Curly and Iris were adopted. I check the web site to see how everyone is doing.

I am including some new pictures that I hope you will enjoy. My sweet Brody is very photogenic. I will be taking him for his physical and microchip a week from Friday so if the old doctors office could fax his records by then that would be great. We will start obedience training two weeks from today. I guess you were right things are going to be okay. I will checking to see if some of my friends will come to the Improve to support the other dogs that still need homes. I hope that you have a wonderful week. Take good care.

Hi Beth

I know it's been awhile, but I wanted to send an update on Lucy (Cinder).
Lucy is a joy. She has all the beautiful qualities the breed offers, and it has been extremely satisfying to see her develop into a happy, secure companion.

Riding in the car is a favorite pastime especially when Fiesta island is the destination. I live very close and we go 2 or 3 times a week. She still treats each visit like it's her first time at her own very special doggie amusement park. I've attached a couple of pictures of her .... having a romp on the green belt fetching her stick, then taking a well deserved rest after all that work!

Seeing her blossom and watching her enjoy life instead of being fearful has been very rewarding. I can only imagine the gratification you must feel when all the hard work and time you invest in these dogs results in the heart warming testimonies I've read from the web site. I can't thank you enough for bringing Lucy into my life.

Hi Beth,

Jag and I are doing well. We are in the process of moving! I have a new job and I am looking for places to live where Jag will be able to play and be merry.

In the meantime, he is living with grandma and grandpa (my parents). They spoil him and he's loving having the run of the house (they have 4 cats as well), while I am away looking for a new home for us.

I have to tell you, the last two years have been so wonderful with Jag around. He's such a great dog and everyday, I look at him and I ask myself "Why in the world would a dog like this be in a rescue?". Anyway, he's been awesome. I can't imagine my life without him.

I've attached a couple pictures of him. In the first one, he's enjoying a giant sheepskin floor mat that my parents got him for Christmas...and in the other, he's rooting for his favorite football team. Go chargers of course.

Anyway I do look at your site from time to time to see if you come across any other dogs like Jag. For about the past year, I was thinking of getting him a sister to play with. But with my new job, I've had to put a hold on getting any new playmates for Jag.

I hope you're having a great new year. Please keep me in your database. If I ever find myself in need of another family member, I will be sure to contact you.

Happy New Year!
Erwin Daria

Hello Beth,

Just want to pass along the news about KiKi who is now Ava. My quiet sedate young lady has blossomed into an outgoing great dog! We just love her and she has truly found her forever home with us. We have taken her on vacation to Utah and she traveled great!

She is my running partner and gets excited when she knows it is time to go run (at 6:00 a.m!) I am enclosing some photos of her. In one photo tried to get into my husband's duffle bag when he came back from a fishing trip. Sat right on it so that she wouldn't be left behind just in case he wants to teach her to fly fish.

She had her first Christmas with us and got lots of presents and thought they all might be hers. We love her a lot.

Thank you so much for what you do for these German Shepherds!

Hi Teresa and Beth,

I hope all is well with you both. I just wanted to give you an update on Baron, the joy of our lives! He is doing so well, and we all love him SO much and can’t imagine our home without him. I’m sending you a few pictures of him in action. He is so funny and good natured, and he is the HIT of Del Mar Heights Elementary school where Tommy is in 3rd grade. Kids will call to him in the car and run over to pet him if we walk in. He has won over many the child who has a fear of dogs he is so sweet and gentle that after they meet and pet him, they are visibly surprised.

He’s full of energy, and Dog Beach is one of his favorite spots. As we’re approaching it in the car, he stands up at full alert so excited! He knows exactly where he is going. He and I walk 3 to 4 miles every day, and he still has energy to play Frisbee in the yard it is his prized possession, and he scoops it up and stands at the door with “that face” who can resist? He is so smart!! He looks after Tommy, and he knows his best friend, Patrick, and where he lives. When I say “Let’s go get Tommy at Patrick’s”, he starts trotting along and I don’t even have to guide him he negotiates several streets and turns and takes me straight to Patrick’s front door.

I can’t thank you enough for helping us connect with Baron. He is an awesome dog and loyal friend and companion. Tommy loves and cherishes him, as do we all. Even my skeptical husband was won over within a week! Baron stops traffic all the time. I have had more people come up to me and admire how sweet and handsome he is. I’ll send you a few more photos you must miss him, you were his foster moms!! He sends you love and kisses.

I tell everyone who inquires about Baron about Coastal German Shepherd Rescue. Most people cannot believe such a wonderful dog could be out there waiting to be adopted. I have had many discussions about adopting vs. buying from a breeder with anyone who will listen to me! I admire you all so much, and I will continue to support you in any way I can.

Take care and give all the dogs a smooch from us.
XO

Hello,

Wanted to send a simple note of Thank you.

We love Riley, now Dubbed Dietrich.
He happily sits with us no matter where we are in the house and has an affinity for playing well with cat toys.

He is a blessing. Please see pictures attached, he is playing and sleeping it up in the music room.

Hello Beth,

Its been a week and Angelique spent her first day at the ranch.

She is doing great and even gets along with our Macaw. She's already with us in the bedroom sleeping next to our 11 yr old Golden "Bindi-Sue".

As you can see in the photos, she has a new boyfriend (Our "Cusco" the Border from BC Rescue). She also loves to jog with us and is very adept to it. She is a real winner. Thanks again for the gift.

Mark, Brook, and her friends

Hello Beth,

I thought I would send these to you since I meant to do so when I saw you at the PetSmart adoption event in San Juan Capistrano last June.

These are photos of my dog Kahuna, who used to go by the name Nicco when he was with you at Coastal.

Please post some of the Photos on the Happy Tails section of the website.

Thanks,
Carlo Felicione

Hi,

We just wanted to give you an update of our new family member Sandy. She is the best dog we have ever had next to our Jake. We look forward to coming home everyday to play ball with her. She can play ball for hours.

We looked into getting a companion for our dog Jake, after losing our Chihuahua, we never thought that we could grow to love another dog, as much. Sandy has filled that hole in our heart and more.

She walks so proudly next to Jake. Doesn't want anyone looking at her man. And the feeling is mutual with Jake.

We want to thank Coastal GSR for giving us the opportunity to adopt Sandy. And Suzanne for taking the time with us to find that perfect dog that would fit into our family. We are thankful for Coastal GSR, and their volunteers, without them we wouldn't of found Sandy.

The Amador Family,
Jesus, Tina, Jay, Michael, Christopher, Jake and Sandy

Hi:

I know we haven't spoken in a long-time. I wanted to give you a picture of Prince and Duchess. They are doing very well and love their car. Yes, this is their car. They like to spend the entire afternoon just sitting in it. Anyway, hope things are well with you.

Talk to you soon.

Hello everyone,

My husband and I wanted to give you all an update of Calypso (AKA Gunner.) We adopted Gunner, who we renaimed Calypso, back in July with the help of your wonderful volunteers.

Calypso is a happy, healthy, energetic and very protective boy. He has gained a much needed 12 pounds since we adopted him! He was very skinny and his coat was sparse and brittle when we took him in, but with the help of some nutritious food and many well-deserved treats he is a gorgeous and happy dog! Now 6 months later, after settling into our home, Calypso has become the "watch dog" of the family. He regularly patrols the fence line of the backyard and keeps a watchful eye out on our walks every day. He, surprisingly, enjoys sleeping outside even though he has two nice comfy dog beds to choose from in our bedroom. But, alas, after an hour or two of going to sleep in the bedroom we hear him go outside through the dog door and sleep in his dogloo! We still can't figure this out....we tend to think he just likes to guard the house. Who knows!

He and his sister, Cayman, are best buddies. They cannot stand to be away from each other so if one has to go to the vet then they other tags along, of course. We have discovered that Calypso loves the garden hose and can jump over almost anything. He loves squeaker stuffed animal toys and licking our cat...gently, of course. Even though he and his sister get a long walk every day, as soon as he sees us grab the leashes he acts like he's never been on a walk before! He gets so excited about going on a walk that it makes us laugh every time.

We couldn't be happier with this recused dog. He came to us with very good manners and has never been aggressive with any other dogs. We often wonder how his previous owners could've given him up but we're glad that they did because we love him dearly.

We would like to thank everyone at Coastal. Please know that you do a wonderful job and we are very greatful for this beautiful addition to our family. I've attached several photos to show you all how great Calypso is doing. Calypso has the big ears and Cayman has the floppy ears!

Thank you,
Meghan and Mike Cranston

Life with Lucy
We adopted Greta last year and renamed her Lucy. I've included pictures of Major and Lucy together - they are inseparable. For the last year we have some health problems with Lucy - she seems to be allergic to everything and would lose her fur often. We found a great Vet dermatologist though and she has been doing wonderful now for the last 6 months. Despite the Vet bills, we can't imagine life without her. It was love at first sight for her and Major and they both complement each other well. When I have to take Lucy to the vet, the neighbors tell me Major howls the whole time she's gone - and likewise, she got so lonely when Major went for his annual checkup.

Having a second dog has been such a blessing and she definitely is the one in charge between her and Major She has a subtle leadership style but is strong when she needs to be with a dog 30 lbs larger than her. She is also obedient and very easy to handle in the house. She knew all the commands (sit, down, stay, come, heel etc..) without us having to do anything but say them. They both have their dog beds next to each other in our bedroom and they sleep nose to nose every night. Lucy has been great with the cats - Fluffy, one of our two cats, thinks Lucy is his best friend and greets her every morning by rubbing up against her. She doesn't mind but clearly she's confused why the cat loves her so much.

Thanks again for such a wonderful companion.

Thank You Coastal German Shepherd Rescue for matching us up with the perfect dog.

We were a little apprehensive getting a rescue dog, as this is our first dog together, much less a 90 pound German Shepherd. He gets along well with other dogs and people and he looks forward to going to the dog park on the weekends to release his energy and meet new friends. He is now a permanent part of our family and never leaves our side.He has a very sweet personality and is very eager to please. His whole goal in life..chase his favorite toy and bring it back to you.

A special thanks to Jessi for recommending Smokey to us and helping us through the first couple of weeks with our questions.

Attached is a picture of Smokey and Jackie.

Hi, Kurt and Paula Kaltmaier here..

We adopted Riley (the US Air Force trained dog) and Kennedy (when you were in Temecula's PetSmart).
Just wanted to send you some photos and let you know both are happy and quite healthy!!
Kennedy, the last time you saw her, one could count her ribs and spine, not anymore!! Riley on the other hand had to go on a diet. We love our dogs and could not imagine them not in our family. Both travel with us to our house in Arizona for weekend trips and are just perfect when traveling. Thank you so much for your work, it is truly a noble cause for noble dogs.

Thank you again,
Kurt & Paula Kaltmaier

Greetings from Bonnie & Booker!

Hi Teresa!

The Gimme Shelter e-mail got me thinking about the organization that made such a difference in our lives. A couple of years ago, we answered a plea on the Coastal website to help a pretty girl in danger of being put down. Bonnie (nee Bonita) entered our lives three days later. I have never had a better birthday present.

It soon became apparent that our White Queen needed a subject to rule over while we were at work. Back to Coastal, naturally. Several rounds of Doggy-Dating later, Booker (aka Booger) joined our flea-bitten family. The two fit like hand and glove from the very start and are now absolutely inseparable. That is not to say that she doesn't give him a royal thumping when he seeks to rise above his station.

Booker has grown to a happy, vibrant 95 pounds, befitting his half Belgian, half German, 100% goofball heritage. Bonnie is the happy, benevolent ruler of all she surveys.
We are indebted to Coastal's patience, education, dedication, and most of all, kindness. Thanks for the work everyone at Coastal is doing to support this wonderful breed and those that love them.

I'm including a picture of the White Queen and her Prince Consort Court Jester.

Take good care and Thanks!

Hi Beth,

Mariah and I wanted to drop by and let you know that she is doing wonderful! We have been working on her separation anxiety and she is doing very well! She has such a personality and attitude, she is such a diva! We love her so much and couldn't be happier!:-) She loves going for walks, playing at the park, and going anywhere in the car! My husband recently left for deployment and I was a little worried about how she would react, but she seems to be doing well and she doesn't really care if Dad is around or not I am the one she follows, and obeys! She is defiantly attached to me! I could not feel safer being home alone and would not have a better friend than her to spend time with! We recently took her to the vet for a check-up, the whole staff there fell in love with her, it was amazing how they all were so attached to her in such a short period of time! She checked out well! She has been camping with us and around our nieces and nephews she amazes me with her temperament every single day! We thank you so much for your work and for helping us find this perfect fit into our home!

Thank you,
April Murray
P.S. attached are some recent pictures! She loves the recliner!

We are more in love with Lulu (aka Gracie) than ever - a year later!!

Happy New Year!!

Love,
Marina and Brad Brenner

Just an update for you all.

Maggie is the MOST wonderful dog. She is an ambassador for the breed. She is such a perfect fit for me and my house. Loves her 2-4 mile walks in the early morning, jumps into her collar when it is time for a few errands (that means A CAR RIDE!!! and a short walk thru the parking area), stays quietly at home when I don't take her, plays so nice with my old dog, is learning all kinds of new obedience. She is so great with people and most other dogs. You should see her great beauty as she runs across my property. Her San Diego dog license came today. She is truly a gift.

See you all at the next Encinitas Event. Thank you.
Virginia

Mickey is doing really well. He and Daisy haven't had a single incident, and after about two weeks, Daisy started taking to licking Mickey's face and cleaning his ears for him. She tries pretty hard to get him to chase her and play, but he isn't interested in playing that way. He will trot after her if she is able to steal a toy of his, but that's about it. He's still obsessed with the tennis ball, so we have to help him pace himself on that one! He just figured out over the weekend that a Kong has food in it and isn't just a strangely-shaped ball, so that's been keeping him busy. We brought the dogs up to Big Bear for the weekend and they had a blast.

We are taking Mickey to the vet this coming Saturday. From the time we got him home, he appears to have a lot of stiffness in his back legs. He struggles on the stairs in our house and when we get home from playing in the dog park, he seems to be a bit sore. So we just want to get him checked out. We're hoping that maybe just some glucosamine supplements might help. He's still getting fish oil and his coat is looking better. He's still got some patches on his back where the fur isn't fully grown in, but his leg that had been shaved B/c of the hot spots is all grown back in and he hasn't had any allergic reactions to anything.

As you know, Mickey is just a total sweetie and SO snuggly. If you stop petting him for a moment, he starts to whimper. He clearly enjoys his dog bed, but also has a bad habit of getting up on the couch and sprawling out there. It's hard to correct him when we're laughing at how funny he is. Because, once he gets up there, Daisy wants to get up there too, only she knows that isn't allowed. So she'll sort of skulk up there and see if she can get away with it.

Anyway, thanks for checking in. I hope that Coastal was able to find lots of good homes for your dogs before the holidays and that the New Year results in fewer dogs in need and more dogs placed in loving, permanent homes.

Tracy

This is a TRUE story. We adopted a dog named Sasha from Coastal GSRescue on Dec. 3rd. It had only been 4 days since our GSD Princess had died. We had adopted Princess as an older dog from the GSRescue of LA. When Tiffany left there and Coastal was founded, we'd kept in touch. After losing Princess, we told Tiffany that we'd like to rescue another female, a bit younger, and with soft hair! Sasha fit the bill perfectly. A girl. Two and a half yo. And with long-hair.

Today we were at the Dog Park in Orange. We were chatting with a couple who also had a rescued GSD. When they heard us call our dog Sasha, the gal asked if by chance our dog came from the Riverside shelter. We told her yes as that is what we'd been told when we adopted her. She said that her best friend was the one who had rescued Sasha from that shelter. That Sasha had been quite sick at the time. Her friend nursed her and subsequently turned her over to Coastal GS Rescue. That's where we enter the picture. Coastal got her late in the week and by Sunday, she was going home with us!!

Unfortunately, we didn't get the couple's name. They had Sasha's pic on their cell phone but couldn't find it at the time. Thought you might like a current pic of her a few weeks after she moved in with us. As the gal at the dog park said...Six Degrees of Separation. The geographic's of this "separation" are: We live close to Knott's Berry Farm. The Orange dog park is 30 minutes SE of here. Riverside is 1 hour east of here. Encinitas (Coastal) is 1 1/2 hours south of here.

Diana & Tiffany,

I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you how well everything is with Shasta.  We just love her so much already!   She fits in beautifully!  She's very calm, very submissive, very, very obedient.  We were worried about her around our two cats, but she's been a perfect little lady around them.  She gives them their space and doesn't bother them at all.  She hasn't even so much as growled at them!  She hasn't barked, either, at anything!  She's very quiet!

When we got home with Shasta, right away we let her into the backyard.  We fed her and gave her water, etc.  After a bit, we took her on a long walk on the trails around our neighborhood.  Before the walk ended, we visited the local park which has become somewhat of a "dog park" since it has a marvelous grassy field and is sunk in low away from any busy street.  Many dogs were there, and Shasta just had a blast.  She met a lot of new faces.

We hadn't let her in to our house all afternoon because we wanted to take it very slowly with the cats.  We let her watch from the outside, and let them watch her, too.  Just after dinner, we brought her in on a leash.  I walked with her all around the whole house so that she could get a good smell of the place.  Then, she settled down in the living room.  She laid still for a while and did just fine.  Every time one of us got up, she lifted her head to see what was happening, but she stayed in the living room.

When it was bedtime, she slept on a big pillow I had made for her in our bedroom.  It was almost as if she knew it was for her, because she just flopped right down on it.  She fell asleep so fast--busy day!--and stayed asleep I think most of the night.

Today, we introduced her to the pet door.  She didn't quite know what to do right away, but now, tonight, the pet door is working just fine for her, too.  She wasn't sure of how to get through it at first.  We practiced with her by holding the flap open, etc.  She's got it down, now.

I'm attaching just a few pictures from our first day.  Thank you so much for helping us find such a wonderful addition to our family!  Shasta is just perfect for us!

The Wood Family,
David, Melissa, Elizabeth, Andy, Tommy

Well, it took me four months, but here are (finally) some pics of Sara (we changed her name from Sammie, poor thing is on her third name at least). As predicted by you guys, her house manners are excellent and she's been an absolute dream with the kids (ages two and five) since day one. We have recently added a Bichon Frise puppy to the family, and the dogs and kids play all day long.

She has lived up to all of our expectations and displays all of the best traits of the breed: loyal and loving companionship, athleticism, territorial interest in the house and family, and intelligence. Thank you so much for your help in placing her with us. Please feel free to use these photos and email on your web site.

Thanks again,
Chad Hunt

Hi Beth,

I just thought I would let you know that Hope is one amazing girl. She is has come out of her shell and is the most loving and playful dog. She nibbles, chases toys (Finally) and get along great with our other dog, Maggie.

Every night around 7:30-8pm we have playtime. It is so funny watching her play with Maggie and chase her toys and run around. She is an amazing dog.

I have attached a pic of the two of them. I hope it is not too big, as I don't know how to reduce the size. Please pass on to all interested parties.

Jeff

Hi Sanika,

I wanted to check in and let you know Nani (Mia) is doing. She is such a sweetie and loved by all. Our family and the neighborhood families love Nani. Here is a picture of all of our girls.
Do you know how her puppies are doing?
Anne~

Sanika,

Thanks for e-mail. Chunky is the BEST! He is such a loving, wonderful pup! He is about 40 lbs. with a beautiful red coat and an almost black tongue. He loves to play with other dogs, but is a liitle afraid of new people. We are so glad he is part of our family!

Hello Beth:

Silver is doing great. She is a wonderful puppy and we do like her a lot. She walks great on a leash and already met a few new “friends” in our local park.

She adjusted rather quickly to her new home and we have introduced the cats last night. They’ll be OK, it will take a few more days for them to get used to each other and maybe bond ??? HA, we’ll see.

Thanks again, you all are doing a wonderful job with these little puppies.
Please let me know where we can send a donation for the rescue.

Best wishes,
Susan

PS: I have attached a few photos of Silver in her new home. She enjoys her backyard - sniff, sniff.....

Beth~

First, my wife and I want to congratulate you on a wonderful event this past Sunday. We have never seen your operation, but were favorably impressed with the spirit and love you all had for the dogs. You are to be commended on trying to find homes for such wonderful, loving animals.

We could not be happier with Dakota. Every day a little more of her personality emerges. She enjoys her morning walks, is always at our side and likes her brother (Xeus). She is exactly what we wanted…a very gentle dog that is housebroken and sleeps through the night. She follows us around, wags her tail and appears to be very happy. She chases butterflies with Xeus and enjoys puppy play time.

As you may remember, we adopted Dakota and have fallen in love with her. She traveled well and enjoyed the ride “home”. Once there she explored the back yard with Xeus at her side. She walked around the entire perimeter, as if trying to find an escape route! Once that was done, she explored every nook and cranny of our home, checking and smelling everything. Once she settled down and had some lunch and a good drink, we took her and Xeus on our favorite walk and gave her some exercise. Xeus showed her all the favorite bushes he likes to smell and was kind of strutting his stuff.

She settled down last night and made herself comfortable in her nice new bed. This morning she had some cookies with Xeus and went on our morning walk. She met a lot of other dogs and was welcomed to the neighborhood. My wife made an appointment for her at our pet groomer who gave her a bath and checked her nails. Tomorrow she goes to the vet for a check-up. We think she is starting to settle in and get comfortable with us..

Again, thanks for your good work with finding homes for German Shepherds.

Ed and Marsha Gabarra

Dallas is a very busy Girl. She has soooo many children to care for. Her patience is incredible. She is calm and collected no matter what. She is settling in amazingly well. She greets all the kids and parents in the morning so calmly but happy for their attention, never pushes or jumps up on anyone! I have never seen a better dog in my life, she seems to have no quirks or hang ups. Totally loving. She does however favor me. My husband is a bit jealous ;o)

Now if the cat would just accept her! Keeta is calming down about her a bit. We have done the crate intro etc. So Keeta is beginning to realize Dallas will not hurt her. I am curious to see how Dallas will act on Saturday morning after a week of 6-8 children at home and suddenly she has only 2 for the weekend ;o)

Thank you for a great adoption!

The Chelfini Family

Hi Beth,

Well we just love Pearl!!! She has adjusted wonderfully. Colby, our 2 year old, and her have become best buddies. Pearl will lay on the floor in the living room and Colby will lay down using her belly as a pillow. It’s too cute.

Earlier today she was checking out Oscar, our African Grey Parrot, and gave him a good lick and to our surprise he gave her a kiss back.

Everybody that meets Pearl just think she’s great. We are so happy she is a part of our family.

Jessi,

Here are a few photos of Jake (Arrow) settling into his new house. He is an absolutely outstanding dog. He is full of energy, but he does his absolute best to keep it under control. He gets on well with Cali (our corgi). The photo of them together on a dog bed was taken on Jake's first night with us. He loves to play ball and we are teaching him to swim, but we are taking it easy - so far we only have him standing on the big step - he seems to like it, but has not yet taken the plunge into the pool to swim - you can see Cali trying to teach him how to swim in one of the photos.

We live right by a canyon, and he loves walks in the canyon - we have been able to let him run around in the canyon but he always remains within sight of us, and frequently returns to shepherd us along with him. Jake also love to play catch with the ball, only trouble is that Cali is a bit older and wiser and always gets a head start and often beats him to the ball - he doesn't seem to mind who gets the ball, and is happy to run along side of Cali when she has it. His one and only accident in the house was on the first night - he has not repeated that again.

He is an outstanding dog - thank you so much for rescuing him and giving us the chance to adopt him

I am sure that we will enjoy him as much as he enjoys living with us.

Regards
Tracey & Diane

Hello Coastal German Shepherd Rescue,

We've recently received a call from Suzanne at the Coastal Rescue asking about how our new family member, Windy, is doing after our adoption from the rescue. It's a little easier for us to get to email than return calls, and we wanted to attach some recent photos of Windy.

Getting Windy adjusted to our home and our cat was a bit trying at first but she's adjusted well and is doing great. We have her in obedience training and she is doing outstanding. She learns quick but sometimes gets a little stubborn and will try to do things her way. It's a bit challenging at times, but with some more work, she'll be graduating from training school and on her way to learning more!

We are so very glad we adopted Windy and can't thank you enough for our new family member. Just a little side note, the adoption papers said Windy was German Shepherd/ Black Lab mix. After doing some research and consulting our vet, we're pretty sure she's German Shepherd/ Whippet mix. The long skinny nose and the temperament she has at times is classic Whippet. We do love our Windy and look forward to her first birthday party we have planned for July 4th. We'll send pictures!

Sincerely,

Jennifer, Mike & Windy McCarty

Hello to Everyone at Coastal German Shepherd Rescue!

My family and I want to thank you for bringing Luke into our lives!  We just love the big goof.

The poor guy had some “launching problems” when we first got him, but he’s doing just fine now.  His shoulder has healed nicely and he has virtually no limp.   He’s gained about 15 pounds and looks healthy.  He is always sweet and loves to “chat”….he’s a real talker but that is part of his charm.  He and our smaller dog Goober get along just fine.  He definitely knows that we love him and always tries to please.  Throw the ball for him and he’s your forever pal.

In my life, I have had the joy of owning 3 other German Shepherds.  These are wonderful, intelligent and loyal dogs.  They have the most amazing personalities and contribute so much to a happy home.

Thank you for the work you do for these animals!  I am confident that our Luke would have faced a doubtful future had it not been for your patience and support.  Keep up the great work!

Best regards,

Denise DiBello

Hi!  I'm Deanna, my family adopted Gus and Sonie at the end of October.

Gus and Sonie are both doing really well.  She doesn't look quite so round anymore, in part because she runs around and plays with Gus.  She loves to run and run around our yard, it's amazing to watch her move.  She is absolutely wonderful with my 2 year old, we still can't imagine why a family with small children gave her up.  Bella can lay on her, hug her, hold her tail, and Sonie never complains, or even moves away!  Gus is a much bigger clown than I think he let you believe, he's usually the one starting doggie play time!  He grunts and groans, and he likes to howl with us in the morning!  He's good with the kids too, but doesn't like hugs.  He is more protective of his property than Sonie, he makes sure I know when anyone walks by.  We took them to the mountains just after adopting them, and they were wonderful travellers!  We went to the Kern River, and Sonie waded right in.

I don't think we could've picked two more different looking Shepherds.  And you'd never know they haven't been together forever, they get along so well.  I think Sonie will keep Gus young, and he'll keep her in shape.  I can't stay away from your website, I visit every week or so, and I cheer for the dogs who get adopted, and am sad for the couple who've come back.  I would still like to do foster work, we just seem to have our hands full with everything.  Maybe when my daughter is older (and not so demanding), or when we're done with more of our remodel.  I know for certain that when we lose Gus, we will be back, I can't imagine having only one dog.  Of course, he is so young at heart, the only place he shows his age is in his grey fur...  Thank you for taking both of them in, we never would've found them if it weren't for you.  I'm attaching a couple of pictures, two of Bella "reading" to Sonie last week, and one of both dogs in the yard...

Thank you, Deanna

We lost our loving, loyal German Shepherd Ringo to cancer. This left a huge, empty void in our home and family. Not wanting to do the “puppy thing” again, we decided to look into a rescue.

We found Coastal German Shepherd Rescue online and started looking. We adopted Maya, formerly “Elsa”. Ringo was not just a pet; he was a family member, so Maya had some big “paws” to fill!

Maya has definitely filled the emptiness in our home. She is extremely loving and playful, highly intelligent and of course beautiful (okay, maybe I am bragging). She bonded very well with our miniature daschund, Rugby, who thinks he’s a German Shepherd. She loves to go for long walks in the canyon or at the beach. She is friendly with all the dogs she meets along the way. To sum it up, we LOVE her!

Maya, Mom & Rugby

I highly recommend adoption from a rescue such as Coastal, especially when adopting a German Shepherd. The dogs have been in a home environment living with families. The “foster parents” are able to observe them and assess their behavior. They are then able to give prospective new families a very good idea of the dog’s temperament and personality.
With Maya, her foster mother’s assessment of her temperament was right on, so we knew exactly what to expect.

Hi Tiffany, I’ve attached pictures of Rebel. I can’t Thank You guys enough for rescuing such a great dog! He deserves only the best, and that’s what he’s getting. When I got him in Encinitis on July 16th, he was 87lb. Now he is 94.6 and counting! He’s had biweekly Veterinarian visits, is still on his Ivermectin and antibiotics, and now is doing wonderfully. In two weeks, he’ll get a skin scraping to see if he is cured of the Demedex. If he is, he’ll only need about another two weeks of Ivermectin, then be off meds altogether.

I hope to soon be able to arrange a visit between Rebel and Reba (Ellie). Rebel seems to be extremely happy. His latest past time is chasing Rabbits off our property in Ramona. He runs at top speed , but is just a little to clumsy, or big or catch them. Of course, Rebel now considers this HIS home, and has quickly taken ownership, patrolling the property.

Thank You again!
