Notes From Coastal Adopters

Dear Mom (Q), Beth, Teresa and the rest of the GSR crew,

Mom I wanted to let you know what a FABULOUS job Beth and Teresa did selecting my new family for me. I KNOW they will find you a good place too. Let me tell you about my family and my favorite new toy, Clark.

Clark is 13 and has lots of friends with people like me. We went down to a big park that is full of tress with lots of new smells and plenty of open grass fields to stretch my legs. Clark introduced me to some boys and girls like me and we all got along really well. Although I was bigger and faster and better at catching the ball than the other kids I let them get it sometime so they wouldn’t think I was showing off. We had so much fun I did not want to come home!

My new house is really cool with lots of different rooms to explore. Although the stairs were a little scary at first I wanted to see where my humans slept so I overcame my anxiety and went up them. Once I realized I would not fall through, I love running up stairs and down to show how brave I am. Daddy teased me by trying to grab my paws from under the stairs so now I like to play there with him. I pretend I don’t see him and let him grab my paw then stick my head through so he knows I CAN see him. He seems surprised every time I do it!! I also like to sit on the stairs so I can supervise who comes into my house. I’ve met a lot of new people who all seem very nice and are very happy that I’ve decided to stay with my new family. They keep telling my humans how lucky they are to have such a beautiful boy select them. I am a little self conscious with people making such a fuss over me because I feel like the lucky one BUT my humans agree with their friends and tell me how much they adore me and how happy they are that I chose them.

In addition to Clark there is a very funny and pretty girl who makes me laugh. She likes to walk around the house singing and dancing while she claps her hands. Her name is Susz and she is really nice. She is ALWAYS smiling and seems very happy in our house so I think I’m going to like it here as well.

My parents have been very good to me. Mom took me shopping Saturday so I could get all new stuff. Dad bought me a nice cedar bed on Sunday and stayed home yesterday to play with me. They let me play ball in the house and I get to run in and out as much as I want. In fact Dad even likes to chase me in the house, he is not very fast but I let him catch me sometimes just so I won’t make him feel bad. There are lots of cool things to run around so I can show off my moves. I also have a nice yard to play in.

Mom likes to take me on walks although I am still getting used to that idea. When the leash comes out it makes me nervous and I go to my “special” spot by my parent’s bed. But they are nice about it and let me come home every time we go away so maybe they are NOT taking me someplace where they will leave me. Although I trust them it may take me a little while to get over my fear of being left, I just can’t help it. They seem to understand so that is helping.

Well that’s about it for now I have a Mammoth bone I am working on so I need to get back to that.

Hope you are doing well Mom, and don’t worry, I KNOW Beth and Teresa will find you a cool family like they found for me.

With Love,
Your Son, Baron von Malcolm (Tonnis)

Beth, Baron dictated this to me last night when we were settling in for the night and asked that I send it to Q. Hope you are doing well and thank you again for the unmitigated joy and love you have added to my family. I don’t think you’ll find five more contented soles!

Best Regards,

Wyatt E. Malcolm

April 16, 2006, from Rusty's new family. Rusty is leaning toward Kaiser as his new name!

We are happy to report that Rusty (aka still deciding but Kaiser is the latest contender) has settled in amazingly well. Any trepidations or uncertainties about him adjusting are gone! Walking him on a leash is a breeze. He's currently enjoying a quiet nap in the shade on the patio. Yesterday was a full day for him. He enjoyed riding in the car to the Daily Pet in the morning and to Petco in the afternoon with a nap at home in between. He was the star of attention, warming the hearts of everyone who met him.

Everyone who meets him is touched by his story and the work of Coastal GSR. We are so enamored with our new family member that we couldn't wait for him to meet our neighbor friends including two female Rhodesian Ridgebacks down the street and the Shepherd/lab mix who lives behind us. He spent the evening in his crate while we were out to dinner and slept there last night as well. Not a peep out of him. We found a thick cushy liner for his crate today and have a nice orthodpedic foam bed on order for him as well. Tonight he's joining us for Easter dinner at our friends' house in Santa Luz where he'll get to hang out with Chester, a very friendly yellow lab.

Thanks again for all your help and care,
Lisa & Joe
May 16, 2006: Kaiser, one month in his new home. Regal, isn't he!

December 13, 2005, from Jake's adopters:

Marcy & Coastal German Shepherd Rescue,

After seeing the letter on your web site from another adopter, I had to share with you what an incredible experience it has been to have Jake as our new loved one. We have always loved german shepherds and previously owned Bruno for 12 years. There is no other breed quite like them. They are loving, loyal, smart, adaptable and quick learners. We've had Jake now for 3 weeks and it feels like he's always been part of our family. We were initially concerned about how he would get along with our two older golden retrievers and as you can see from the pictures, it didn't take long for Jake to make fast friends. Coastal, and in particular Marcy, did such a great job preparing Jake for adoption that it was easy for us to help him with the transition. Jakey is our sweet lover, getting stronger every day. We highly recommend a rescue dog over any other option. We feel so good about having him and knowing that we will be providing that "glorious ending". Thanks so much for all the hard work that Coastal does and we trust that Jake will be one of many more beautiful dogs to grace our home.
