Coastal German Shepherd Rescue of Southern California is a non-profit 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal was formed to serve communities in the counties of San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.
Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future.
We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all volunteer, no-kill, non profit organization.
Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of over population of animals through education, training, spaying and neutering.
We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families.
All prospective adoptive families must complete an on line application followed by a telephone interview and then receive a home visit before a German Shepherd is placed in their forever home.
If you have a German Shepherd that you can no longer care for please see our Rehoming Information. For any other information you can contact us by email or phone at:
The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.
Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
Each dog has an initial exam, including Rabies, DHLPP-C, & Bordetella.
All dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. Our adoption process begins
with completing an application on-line. A phone screening will soon follow, and
lastly a home visit will be conducted by our volunteers.
The above adoption fee does not cover medical expenses beyond basic
vaccinations. Food, boarding, crates, bowls, leashes, collars, tag fees, etc are
all extra cost associated with every dog we bring into our care. Each rescue
dog's average cost is between $495-$650 and at times vet bills are over $1,000,
especially when they have critical illnesses such as pneumonia or a fractured
leg. As you may have guessed, the adoption fee does not always
cover a majority of each Orphans expenses.
Out of Town Adoptions
Persons living a few hours away are welcome to adopt,
but must be prepared to provide their own transportation to visit the dog and
pick up the dog. In place of a required home visit, applicants must provide at
least one letter of recommendation from a pet professional (i.e.: veterinarian,
animal trainer, or local humane organization) on letterhead in addition to
photos of your home and property that will show where the dog will be sleeping,
fencing etc.
If you have other pets, copies of vaccinations and proof of
spay/neuter is required prior to adoption. If you have children and/or other
dogs, it is highly recommended that you bring the whole family to the
appointment.
We are organized as a non-profit 501(c)3 public charity and any contributions are tax-deductible. Our taxpayer ID is EIN 77-0645853.
