Artemus

Over two months ago, Artemus, a handsome three year old boy, and his equally handsome brother, Ace, were relinquished to a high kill shelter when their human family lost their home. We think their life had been a rough one but once they arrived at Rescue, their lives turned around. Soon Ace was adopted, leaving Artemus alone to wait for his turn to move into a new and loving home.

During these two months, we've had an opportunity to learn more about Artemus. One of our committed volunteers has been spending time with him at the boarding kennel and reports that he is a very happy guy who loves to give kisses, loves to run and jog, and does a pretty good job with the "sit" command. All in all, he's a very happy guy, and our volunteer writes, "He's just a very fun dog to be around. I really look forward to walking him and we both enjoy our brief outings." Won't you invite Artemus to join your family? He would really like to leave behind the world of animal shelters and boarding kennels and promises that he'll run and jog with you whenever you'd like!

He is currently in a boarding facility. He would love to have a warm bed and someone to love him, whether it be in a temporary foster home or in a new forever home. Could you open your heart and home to this handsome boy?

Update 8/10/09
Do you remember when you were a kid in school and it was time for a field day? If you can remember your excitement about being out of school and having lots of fun things to do, you can imagine how excited Artemus (we also like to call him Arty because it seems much less formal than Artemus) was today. Today was the day for Art, the Rescue volunteer, and Arty, one of our handsome adoptable canines, to go on a field trip. Artemus/Arty was so very, very happy to see Art and couldn't wait to leave his kennel and start on his adventure.

As you can see from these photos, it was a day filled with fun. We don't know how much experience Arty has had as a passenger in a car but Art decided that baby steps were in order - drive a while, pull over and let Arty out to walk for a while, drive for a while, and on it went until they arrived at the beach. Arty got his paws wet but since this may have been the first time ever that he visited the ocean, he was just a bit uncertain as to what to do. Maybe all those crashing waves and broad stretches of sand need to be experienced often to be really appreciated. But check out those photos! That's a happy, happy dog! Bring on the beach!!

There were many more stops along the way to visit and Arty had an absolute ball. Anyone would have a grand time when complete strangers "oooh" and "aaah" over you! And as you can see from some of the photos, Arty could be a poster boy for all the wonderful dogs who serve in our military far from home. (Of course, he'd rather be cuddling with you in his new home!)

That's about it. Back to the kennels and our wonderful Artemus/Arty was all tuckered out. We expect the same could be said for Art!
