Apollo

Apollo when he came into the Rescue, what a cutie!

I hadn’t been christened with a name when my foster mama brought me home, so on a whim she nicknamed me, “Kirby,” because I scoot along the floor and pick stuff up just like the vacuum cleaner. Sad eyes and sweet, puppy breath buy a lot of forgiveness because I don’t see the vacuum cleaner getting near as much loving and cuddling as I get. Even after I untied her shoe and gnawed on the lace, my foster mama commented about how handsome I looked sitting proudly with my head cocked to one side.

I have learned a lot of valuable things in the short time that I have been in my foster home. First of all, big dogs have the right-of-way. It is always a good idea to show your respect for the big dog by bowing down to her highness and rolling over on your back. Sneaking up behind the big dog and biting her tail is a universally bad idea. If however, you succeed in an ambush attack on the big dog’s tail, you can seek safe haven underneath the coffee table or inside your crate. Despite what you might think my crate is a pretty nice place to curl up and rest after I have worn out my foster family with a long session of play. I don’t mind going in there at bedtime either.

Second, my foster mama is easily amused by the most ridiculous things. For example, she gets absolutely giddy when I run around in circles and sniff the floor. She scoops me up and carries me to a big patch of grass and gives me all kinds of praise when I wee. I’m not sure what all the fuss is about because I was going to wee anyway. Since it makes her so happy, I think that I will keep doing it outside.

My foster mama says that her job is to help me become a good canine citizen so that I will be ready to move in with my forever family as soon as they come for me. I just know that they are going to be really special people. I can’t wait to meet them and give them all of my puppy love!

Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!

If you are interested in meeting me, please fill out our online application. An adoption counselor will contact you. Due to the overwhelming response we get to puppies, we will not be able to provide information until we have an application on file.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
