Becky

Becky is a 1 year old classic, black & tan female. Becky is good with other dogs.

Update 2/8/09 from Becky's foster mom
Becky really loves to be in the car (once she gets in!), and got in easier later in the day. The first 10 minutes after I left the kennel, she was standing, but then she laid down and started chewing the bone I gave her, then curled up in a big ball. She also waits well in the car, as I had to go in to a store twice for 15 minutes, she didn't even move.

She likes to sleep on the hardwood floors so far, but I'm trying to get her used to a 'spot' or her crate instead (am crating her at night). She snores a bit when she relaxes, between sighs, too funny!

Becky has a sweet personality. After each romp in the big wet backyard, I wipe her paws and underbelly with a towel. She was a little hesitant at first, but just this morning she didn't budge. I tried it a bit more roughly, like a child would and no snapping and she was very patient. I want to get her ready for being handled at her "bath time"!

Took her to visit her neighbors and a 2-year old and she does well with small children. Since she's so new to me, I kept her really close on a short lead. But she just stood there, then laid down and rested with 5 adults and a toddler standing and talking nearby.

Becky walks really well, she doesn't pull on the leash. She automatically heels and I only had to remind her a few times. She is very easy to walk! She also ignored the big cat about a 4 feet away at a friends house, but the cat did not look pleased to have a visitor. We'll see what she does if she sees a running cat! This morning after her breakfast, she came in and stood in front of me and gave me her first "paw". Yeah! Very sweet!

Like a typical youngster, she did was start chewing her sheepskin rug, but I caught & reprimanded her and she stopped within a few minutes. Plus, I'm learning, she found the toilet and thought it was her water bowl, so now the lid's down and she's stopped going in the bathroom for water and going to her own water bowl.

She is not super fond of going into her kennel, so I've been teaching her to go in there for intervals of time, using treats yesterday, and today she went in begrudgingly without a treat. Once she's in, she's happy, no whining, just lays down on the sheepskin. She seems to be housebroken and has already found her "spot" in the backyard. By this morning, she knew I was "mom" and went down on her back and let mescratch her tummy, I think she trusts me now.

Update 2/17/09
Becky is thoroughly good at responding to "Kennel", "Sit", and now "Paw". Her Foster Mom has trained her to sit and give her a "paw" to wipe her feet when she comes in from playing in the rain. Becky is learning quite well and is so smart. Not to mention, cute!

Becky had a fun play date in her Foster Mom's backyard with Ellie the lab, and followed her around for an hour. They played well together, it was very cute when she was trying to "hide" in the grass from Ellie while they were playing.

Becky loves her chew bones and still has a lot of "puppy" in her. She likes to bow before her bone, then throw the bone up in the air and watch it drop!
