Benson

Benson is a super affectionate homebody that just wants to hang out with you and any other 4 legged friends already in your home. After meeting Benson, you can’t help but have his memory etched into your heart.

All indications suggest that a wise, contented soul resides within Benson: his perfect competency with housebreaking, a solid comprehension of commands, and a calm, docile nature that takes most dogs years to achieve. It seems that the numerous challenges that Benson has been forced to overcome in his short life have promoted a maturity and intelligence beyond his mere three years of age.

Benson’s troubles began when he was dropped of at the shelter by his family. In addition to experiencing emotional distress as a result of losing his home, Benson suffered tremendous physical pain and discomfort when a botched neuter surgery performed at the shelter caused an almost life-threatening infection. When our darling, sweet boy finally started recovering from the infection, we noticed that he seemed to be experiencing pain in his hips. Benson had already endured more trauma than any human or animal should in such a short life-time. Our patrons and volunteers couldn’t bear to let Benson suffer one more minute and went out of their way to raise the funds required to perform corrective surgery on Benson’s hips.

Although Benson’s hip surgery was completely successful, his gait was somewhat affected. Benson’s walk is now characterized by a sashaying motion, so you can understand why he might be embarrassed about parading around in public. Benson has been working on his walking skills and shows great improvement. We will continue to update his progress as he gets more practice in. He is also currently using a citronella collar when taking car rides.

Any hint of disability or insecurity completely disappears when Benson starts running. You just have to see him when he hits top speed, it is a sight to behold! Benson has been crossing his paws hoping to be adopted by a family with a big backyard where he can run and play and a tranquil, protected environment.

Mostly Benson is a homebody. He loves nothing more than being close to his family and hanging out inside his comfortable home. Benson is so good-natured that he gets along just fine in his foster home with other dogs. If his playmates aren’t in the mood, he happily reaches for one of his favorite toys and amuses himself for hours. Benson also appreciates quiet time to enjoy napping on the dining room rug or soaking up the warm afternoon sun on the patio.

The only thing that Benson needs now is an understanding family who can look beyond his physical imperfections and love him for who he truly is: a sweet, loving companion. Is your family the one that Benson has been waiting for patiently to love and cherish for the rest of his life-time?
