Charger
“We have a 6 month old puppy that was turned in by it’s owner, we cannot adopt him to the public, can you help him out or he will be on death row”. This is what I heard on my voice mail, I was stunned to hear this, I didn’t know if there was something terribly wrong with the pup, why couldn’t they adopt a 6 month old dog to the public again???? An hour later, I was told the entire story . . . .Charger was brought to the shelter by his owners because they couldn’t housebreak him. Shortly after, when a neighbor found out that he (Charger) was dumped at the shelter, they called the shelter and told them the other side of the story. Apparently, they (the neighbors) would hear the “man of the house” kick and hit the puppy every time he had an accident in the house. The dog would scream and cry, and the “man of the house” would yell at the top of his lungs at the dog, these terrible noises carried over the fence, the neighbors heard the cries every single day . . . . he is only 6 months old.
Thankfully, Charger is now in a foster home with a wonderful couple who is showing him that the world really isn’t really a bad place, his foster sister Mia is teaching him the ropes and Charger is learning that his new Foster Daddy is a very gentle man. Charger is slowly realizing that being kicked and hit is never going to be part of his life ever again. Both Mommy and Daddy are taking very good care of him, something Charger could only dream of, that I am certain.
Update from Charger's foster home:
Like all shepherds, Charger protects the borders of his house and wants to be introduced to newcomers. He is friendly and affectionate to all, including children. There are two cats living in Charger's foster house. He is not aggressive with the cats, but wishes they would start playing with him! He loves to give "kisses" and is great at obeying basic commands - especially if there's food involved. Charger has never met a morsel of food he didn't like. He is potty-trained and has never had an accident in his foster house.
Charger would to have a brother or sister in his forever home. He needs a canine companion to show him the ropes and teach him that it is okay to be a puppy! He has come such a long way since he was rescued, but he needs continual love and support to grow.
Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!
