Chesty

Chesty, or Teufel Hunden Chesty, as his snooty friends at the AKC refer to him as, is a wonderful, energetic, 19 month old male in search of a new family. Chesty’s previous owners had to relinquish him because he was causing one of the family members to have an allergic problem. Chesty comes from a home with 3 small children, so we know that he will be OK with children.

After a formal introduction, he gets on OK with other dogs, but he could certainly improve his socialization skills. He has some basic training (sit, down, leave it) and is house trained. He does not do well with cats.

As is typical with a young male Shepherd who has not been fully trained, he does need to learn some manners and he would benefit from some experienced leadership to give him the focus and leadership that all dogs need. With continued training, he will mature into a wonderful addition to any family.

Update 4/19/09
Chesty is in a foster home right now. He lives with a 70lb. male German Shepherd and a 45lb female Husky/German Shepherd mix. They run around and play all day long. They love each other so much. Chesty also lives with two children ages 3 and 6. He is so well behaved with them all. He has such great manners. He doesn't jump on you or furniture or play to rough and he know tons of commands. He does not like his foster cat sister though, so he can not go to a home with cats. Chesty has a high prey drive for small animals, so he wouldn't do good with small dogs either. He would do best in a home with either children or other dogs, he wouldn't be happy as an only dog.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $400 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
