Dharma

What was one of your favorite games to play when you were a kid? Many of us might say the "hide and seek" was lots of fun. You tried to find the absolutely perfect place to hide and then waited and waited for someone to find you! Dharma, a beautiful black and tan girl who is from one to two years of age, has her own version of this game. How does she play the game? Playing with toys is okay but what Dharma really likes to do is to find things around the house and put them somewhere else. Actually, her game is called "I'll go hide it" and "You go seek it"! Her foster mom says that if you'd like to play her game, she'll play forever!

What else can we tell you about Dharma? She is a sweet youngster who needs as much human contact as possible. Maybe you aren't away from the house for long periods of time or maybe there is someone in your family who is usually home. If that's your life style, Dharma will be very, very happy. On the other hand, if she is left alone for period of time, she does get a bit anxious. We think she's just trying to find her humans. Of course, maybe this is another variation on her game of hide and seek. Maybe she's saying, "Please don't hide from me!"

Dharma has a thirst for learning and really works hard to make her human family proud of her. She knows her basic commands and is getting better at them every day. She is very smart and has even figured out how to open doors that have handles. Maybe you can train her to close the doors as well! She's so smart that we think she'd pick it up in no time at all.

Update 1/29/10
Have you heard about the mensa society? If so, you know it is a society for bright people where the only requirement to join is a high IQ. We know that somewhere there is a doggie mensa and Dharma is most certainly one of the members. She is one very smart girl! Anyone who is smart knows that it is very easy to become bored if there isn't anything to challenge you mentally. What did Dharma do to break the boredom? At the kennel, each dog has a dedicated tote bag that holds a custom fitted collar, personal belongings, and favorite treats. Clipped to the outside of a dog's kennel door, Dharma decided to spend her time pulling the bag through the bars and then chew all soft items. She knew to leave behind all other items such as her ID tag (who wants to chew metal anyway??). Finally, Dharma is a petite girl but she can hold her own when running with the big boys when she was part of an active play session with two of her boy doggie buddies.
