Eli

All the dogs in the shelters have a sad story to tell. Some of them were turned in by owners who couldn't keep them because of job loss, illness, or foreclosure. Others were turned in by owners who just didn't want them anymore. Still others were inhumanely turned loose to fend for themselves and were eventually picked up as strays.

But Eli's story is particularly heartbreaking. His family didn't even give him a fighting chance at a new life. When they moved out of their house, they took everything with them except Eli. They simply locked the door and left Eli behind. Who knows what they thought would happen to him. Did they leave him any food? Any water? If so, how much did they think would be enough? Did they ever imagine that poor Eli would be alone in that house for A MONTH before he was discovered?

It's hard to understand why anyone would do such a cruel thing. It's equally hard to fathom a dog's incredible capacity to forgive and move on. Eli holds no grudges against people. He's a gentle, loving, wagging six-year-old who clearly appreciates the kindness, the affection, the soft bed, and the regular meals he's getting at his foster home. This sweet guy deserves a forever home with a new family…one that will honor him as a member of the family and will never, ever leave him.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $400 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
