Faye

Updated Photos!

Faye was hit by a car, and has two broken hip sockets. We need the help of our supporters now more than ever. If you visit our site often, you already know how many hurt dogs we've been trying to help, especially lately. A lot people asked us to help Faye, and we couldn't say no! Suspected to have been hit by a car, she is emaciated and her hind end is very weak. Originally getting feedback from veterinarians that she would need over $4,000 in surgery, we were VERY dejected given everything that we have been through since the holidays. But, for a change our trusty orthopedic surgeon gave us some good news!!!!! He believes that Faye's left hip will heal normally with time. However, the only alternative for her other hip is most likely hip repair surgery - typically surgery associated with hip displasia but since her hip socket is very damaged, its being treated the same.

Faye will continue to recuperate in her foster home - she is just getting over a cold and her appetite is very good so that we can get some weight packed on her slight frame. Another set of xrays will be taken at the end of January to see how she is healing.

Faye absolutely deserves to live out her life as a beloved companion. She is just 18 mos old and, while clearly in pain, she is very stoic and makes every attempt to follow her foster mom everywhere. She spends a lot of time in her crate, never complaining or causing any trouble. She does appear to have an alpha personality because as she feels better, she attempts to boss a few of her foster siblings around. Faye is housebroken, extremely affectionate and knows a few commands.

UPDATE:

February 5, 2006: Faye's hindquarters are continuing to strengthen every day! She can actually run across the yard now! Its a funny looking run but she is so much more active than the first few days that we had her. She can walk on hardwood floors and stay standing for much longer periods. We are still waiting to xray her again to see what, if any, surgery needs to occur.

Faye is ready for her forever home - she is VERY affectionate, housebroken, a great watch dog and she gets along well with other dogs (although she is bossy). Faye loves her crate and understands (and follows) several commands.

Please remember that the rescue will raise the funds necessary to take care of any surgery required for this particular injury. We continue to be hopeful that her body will mend on its own.
