Gandolf

Gandolf is a gorgeous 3 year old black and red male. His eyes speak of a hard life and show age beyond his years. The only thing eating around him, though, were the ticks. He is underweight by at least 10 pounds, probably more. He is very sweet, good with other dogs.

Gandolf is a sensitive boy. He appears to have been mistreated in the past. Is is uncomfortable when approached from the front and cowers if he is cornered. On the other hand, if you kneel down and put your hand out, he comes up to you slowly and will let you pet him and enjoys a good face massage. With the right touch and food, he will make a wonderful family dog.

While he is afraid initially of humans, his face and entire body light up when he sees another dog. Gandolf will probably do best in a home with a confidante dog to show him the ropes and help him learn to trust people.

Update 12/09/09
We always like to receive reports from our wonderful volunteers who foster our dogs while waiting for a new home. Bottom line on Gandolf? He's "doing great". A classic gentle giant, he is weighing in at 94 loving pounds! Cooperative when walking on a leash, he does need some refresher course because he really, really wants to go up to any dog he sees and play. After all, I suppose it does get a bit boring just to walk when you see another dog who looks as if he or she would like a play date! "Chase" and "catch me if you can" are at the top of his list of things to do with his canine buddies but he's also willing to lie on his back and allow smaller dogs to maul him for minutes at a time. While he wants to be with the human in his world, he is fine when left alone. Even though he might prefer having another dog to keep him company, there has been no evidence of separation anxiety even when he has been left alone for up to six hours. His foster mom reports that now that he knows her well, he will give up outside play with other dogs and follow her into the house. Housebroken, he will also awaken his foster mom in the night to let her know he needs to go outside. In summary, our foster volunteer writes, "He is going to be a great dog for a person or family who is willing to take the time to let him get to know them."

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $400 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
