Husker

When our volunteer first met Husker at the shelter, he wouldn't really engage but if she got him in a hug, he was very affectionate. Well...she went back to get him a couple of days later and the minute he walked through the gates of the shelter (and we do literally mean the minute!!!!!), he started skipping, smiling at his rescuer and wagging his tail. It is so hard to describe the soaring joy that rescuers feel when they see a dog like Husker come 150% alive when they realize that they are on the gravy train! These guys KNOW when they are free and to see their previous malaise drop away in an instant, well, we guess that is what keeps us going.

Husker went home to a multiple dog household where he is working VERY hard to be everyone's best friend. Husker (named for his beautiful red and black coat) is a solid fellow, rather tall and no more than 18 mos old. He is head over heels about the ladies in the house and has done a great job of working the room so to speak. The other dogs have accepted him immediately - he wants no trouble, shares toys willingly and we dare to say that he will be fine with cats (cat test to follow).

He's got lots of energy but it isn't obnoxious. On his first night, he had to succumb to the sheer exhaustion that his body must have felt after several weeks in a cold hard shelter - we watched him fight sleep with a brand new toy under his chin and finally succumb...we LOVE this boy!

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
