Irene

Irene was brought to our attention at a recent Super Adoption Event at one of the Orange County Animal Shelters. She had become a staff favorite and unfortunately they were considering euthanizing her as they had not had any interest from the public in adopting her.

Irene is practically perfect, except for one thing....she has Pannus, which is a common ailment among German Shepherds. It does affect her vision in one of her eyes, but you would not know it as she gets around fabulously. Irene is about 5 years old and is a pleasure to be around. She loves other animals and is currently fostered in a multi-dog home. She is housebroken and knows basic commands.

Update 12/30/2008
Irene was having trouble eating and keeping food down. Our volunteers rushed her to the vet where they discovered a large tumor in her chest that was pushing on her esophagus making it difficult for her food to pass. The cancer was too far advanced to treat and she was too sick to stablize so we made the decision to release her from her pain. Poor Irene died before we were able to find a family to love her. But at least she left the earth knowing someone cared about her!

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
