Isla

There is a wonderful song made famous by Harry Belafonte who sang about an island in the sun. Remember these lyrics? "Oh, island in the sun, willed to me by my father's hand. All my days I will sing in praise of your forest, waters, your shining sand." We have our own special island in the sun here in San Diego. Her name is Isla which is Spanish for island and if you welcome her into your life, you will forever sing her praise.

Isla is a beautiful bi-color girl somewhere between two and three years of age who was found as a stray. At the shelter, she shared a kennel with three other dogs. The kennel was small and at eighty three pounds, Isla took up quite a bit of the space. Finally she was able to move into a kennel where she lived with only one other dog who was about the same size and the same energy level. That means exuberant! She was so happy! After arriving at Rescue, Isla moved to temporary residence in a foster home. Is she a great dog?? Absolutely yes! She is good about going into her crate and staying there. No accidents in the house or in the crate, and she'll go to the door to let you know when she has to go outside for a potty break. She has an excellent appetite and has no issues at mealtime with the other dogs in her foster home. Treats are taken softly from her foster mom's hand, alternating with treats begin given to another dog. She definitely gets along well with other dogs. Do you like doggie kisses? If so and only if you ask, you'll love Isla's sweet, tidy, gentle kisses. If there is a reason, she'll bark but she'll also quiet down when asked. As for commands, she knows sit and down. Because she is so exuberant about life, she can pull on her leash if there is something that looks like a fun activity but she's making progress on walking nicely.

Isla is waiting to join you on an island in the sun!
