Justice
We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." Alfred Lord Tennyson could have been describing Justice when he wrote these beautiful words, a seven-year-old beautiful boy, who has fallen on hard times. He lost his family when they lost their home. It must have been hard for them to leave him behind with tears in their eyes as they walked away, but it must have been even harder for him to be dumped in a strange place, watching the backs of the only family he had had evern known and loved, wondering why they were leaving him in this cold, strange place. He lost his warm bed to a three foot by six foot kennel he now had to share with three other dogs, their food in one container, attached to the door, beside the water. No fresh air from the outdoors, only that provided through ventilation in a shelter that housed 340 other dogs, and the only bed, the cement floor that doubled as a potty for all four dogs.
Justice is a happy senior. He is very well trained. He knows his hand commands. He gets along very well with other dogs and does well with children. He loves to play ball. He will happily go into the sit position or down position and wait for you to throw the ball, which he will just as happily retrieve, drop at your feet, and wait for you to repeat as many times as you wish. If you wait too long to throw the ball, he will remind you with a happy bark that you are engaged in a game of toss and retrieve with him. Justice does very well on a leash and is happy to take a nice easy stroll or a little faster trot if you like. And, like Tennyson said, time and fate have taken their toll, a little arthritis can be seen, but it doesn't slow him down, and his recent family situation has caused him to fall into a state of depression where he would not eat and lost weight. But none of this changes who he is, wiser with age, more gentle with time, and eager to live out the rest of his life with a family who will stick with him until the end. He is not asking for your forever. He's only asking to be given his, no matter how long that forever may be.
