Kam

"What a difference a day makes" is the title to a song written in 1934 by Maria Grever. It is also an observation that can be made about Kam, a handsome one year old boy who was found in Palm Springs. But in this instance, the difference didn't take a day. It only took an hour.

When he arrived at Rescue, Kam was reluctant to leave the car. When a collar was placed around his neck, he rolled on his side as if he feared he would be struck. Cowering and slinking all the way to the dog park, we think he has been abused. Probably lots of yelling and hitting so he didn't know who he could trust.

Fast forward for just a short time and watch Kam with his new foster brother at the dog park. Kam blossomed. He watched his foster brother trot along and followed him everywhere, copying his moves. His tail wagged as if there were no tomorrow. His lack luster eyes soon sparkled and he smiled a smile that was better than any teeth whitening commercial you have ever seen! He quickly became more trusting of people and loved to kiss all the other dogs at the park, not knowing that kissing a stranger isn't something all dogs are in favor of doing!

Fast forward again when Kam and his foster brother returned home. Kam was already a completely different dog - very playful and very happy. He doesn't want to be a leader but he is very happy to be a follower. He definitely would do well in a home with one or more other dogs where he promises that he'll be a lover, not a fighter. Kam also loves to please people and wants to keep everyone happy. He'd like you to know that even though he still slinkers a lot on the floor when you first meet him, he'll adjust very quickly to his environment. After all, look at all the changes that have already occurred in less than a day!

Update 5/11/09 from Kam's foster family
Kam is an INCREDIBLE dog! He is unbelievably lovable, and equally loving! Kam's demeanor is excellent, and given a short period of time, he is very adaptable to his environment. We began fostering Kam when he had very little confidence. Today, two and a half weeks later, Kam is not the same dog he's better! Kam now initiates play with other dogs, plays with toys and holds his tail and ears high! He loves to run outside and walks well on a leash. He will go on a long run with you, and sleep through the night next to your bed.

Kam is only a year old and has so much potential! He no longer tries to jump up on furniture as he first did, and he is now willing to go up and down most flights of stairs. Kam learns from what he does wrong when we correct him, and comes when called. He is calm in the house and rides great in the car! We took him camping, and he LOVES the outdoors! Kam has a healthy appetite and drinks plenty of water!

Kam gets along well with EVERYBODY! He loves people who will give him positive attention! He loves big dogs who will wrestle with him and little dogs who will lick him and nibble his ears! He loves children who will pet his head and give him hugs! Kam loves to be happy and he loves the opportunity to explore what the world has to offer, that it is a place where he can be happy and have fun.

As his foster family, we cannot say enough positive things about Kam! Our dog, Stella, loves having him as a play buddy! She's taught Kam how to play with her toys, and helped him gain his confidence. Like an German Shepherd, Kam is very loving. He will be wonderful in any home that enjoys being active and exploring the world. He will succeed in a home with children and dogs. Kam will make a fantastic addition to the family who is lucky enough to adopt him!
