Karl

Karl is a beautiful (neutered) male white German Shepherd whose former owners neglected him to the point that the tips of his pretty ears were eaten away by flies. His ears will never be truly pointed again, but the hair is starting to grow back now, and his sunny disposition is completely unaffected. We think he’s about three years old.

Karl is playful with people and other dogs, and he gets along great with his five canine foster brothers and sisters. He has warm eyes and a big smile, is very affectionate, and loves everyone he meets. It took him a few days to warm up to his foster dad, but they’re good friends now. Perhaps a man was unkind to him in the past, but he has responded very positively to his foster dad’s loving approach.

About average height for a male, Karl is a big-boned, stocky dog with a large head and a commanding presence. Like most GSDs, he’s a good watchdog, but accepts strangers quickly when so directed by his human pack leaders. He would make any family feel safe and secure.

Although his ear damage makes us think he was left alone outside all the time, Karl has quickly become a happy housedog. He’s crate-trained and is content to sleep and eat there, as well as wait there quietly when his foster mom goes out. When inside and out of his crate, Karl is always supervised. Because of the crating, we can’t be completely sure yet if he’s potty trained, but after two weeks in his foster home, he hasn’t made any “mistakes” in the house. A little basic obedience training will make Karl the perfect dog, and he’s so cooperative and eager to please that we know he’s easy to train.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
