Lagos

Lagos, a two year old classic black and tan handsome boy, just doesn't understand what happened to him. Somehow he, a female German Shepherd, and a pit bull found themselves in a high kill shelter, about to be euthanized. Why? Because the female German Shepherd and the pit bull were fearful and the behaviorist said that Lagos "looked at him funny" so he didn't bother to test him. The owner came to the shelter and took the female German Shepherd and the pit bull home but left Lagos behind. Again, why? Because he really didn't belong to her but to her aunt and her aunt had already moved away. We cannot imagine the sense of excitement that Lagos must have felt when the woman whom he knew showed up at the shelter and then the sense of confusion and sadness that he must have felt as he watched her walk away with his doggie companions, leaving Lagos behind.

Fast forward to today, and Lagos is safe, secure, and loved while he resides at Rescue. We are getting to know him but he we think he would do best with an experienced German Shepherd owner. He's a very strong guy and wants to be "in charge". As for other dogs, he did really well when dog tested with a female, play bowing and so one. We're not sure how he is with boy playmates. And as for cats, he seemed uninterested and would rather hang out with people. Won't you invite Lagos to your new forever home?

Update 12/22/09
We always like to receive information from people who foster our dogs because they are able to observe behavior in a home setting. Here's what we've learned about Lagos. He definitely is very friendly and good with female dogs (there were two female dogs in his foster home), even if the female is a bossy girl (yes, one of the girls was quite bossy). In fact, there were no issues with food, play, or territory with either of the girl dogs. He is not, however, tolerant around boy dogs so definitely only girls need apply. He loved to play fetch or more accurately, he was great with getting the ball but still had a lot to learn about returning the ball. He's a bright boy though so we know he'll learn in no time at all. With the adults in the home, he was very affectionate and obedience. However, Lagos' new home must be adult only. No children now or in the future, please!

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
