Leena
She plays extremely well with our dog Dibby (another GSR dog, aka Digby) who is also very playful. They will wrestle and chase and gnaw on each other until their tongues drag on the ground. After a good drink of water and about 5 minutes they’ll go again. Leena definitely would need to have a playful partner that can keep up with her, be they human or canine. We have not given her the opportunity to meet other dogs, but we think she’d do well with them.
Leena also loves to chase her ball and will bring it back to you every time. Nylabones and squeaky toys are a hit as well. Both dogs are quite easy-going and share most everything, neither have shown possessiveness of toys or beds or food, but proper introductions are everything. Leena has shown a few signs of wanting to be top dog, but she also listens to the other “top dogs” in the house when she gets out of line.
When left to her druthers outside, Leena likes to do some yard work. She is a great weed puller. But beware once she’s finished weeding, she’ll move on to other things like ice-plant, melons, tomatoes, or whatever else might be edible in the garden. On the bright side, she is a very health conscious puppy as she likes eating carrots, celery, cucumber and watermelon.
Leena is still getting over her prey drive-puppy instinct to “play” with our cats. One cat is a bit of a tease and the other just lays about. She’s more interested in the teaser (of course) but after day-in-day-out training she is catching on to the hierarchy of the house. However, she still needs a lot more training in this respect.
Just recently we had guests come over to the house. This was a new experience for Leena and we noticed that she jumped on a couple of people. But after a quick “no” she stopped and moved on to something else. She might be best for a family with older kids that she couldn’t knock down easily.
Her forever home will be filled with lots of patience, guidelines and love.
