Legend

I am Legend ….. not the canine hero who co-starred with Will Smith in the blockbuster bearing his name, but a hero in his own right who aspires to one day be the shining star in the eyes of his very own forever family.

This beautiful boy was found roaming around Riverside with Oklahoma tags and a traceable microchip. Hope flourished as calls were placed to re-unite him with his family, only to be crushed when his family made no effort to claim him. He suddenly found himself struggling to survive in sub-par conditions of an overcrowded shelter, labeled as fearful, and marked for euthanization. But just as quickly as fate had turned him into an abandoned, unwanted dog, it reversed itself to give him a 2nd chance. He found himself on his way to San Diego, with the promise that he would never again be discarded or unloved.

One has only to surrender to the deep brown eyes of this gentle dog to find the soul of a survivor. All indications are that he has not had the most comfortable life, his spirit has been wounded, and he fears abandonment. And yet, he is eager to trust again and offers it unconditionally to anyone who takes the time to get to know him. His quiet, unassuming presence will be the first thing you will notice, then his lack of confidence coupled with a look that begs, “Pick me, take me, love me”. Loving him is so easy, but finding the perfect home that will make this special boy the king of his castle will be the challenge for this foster mom!!!

Legend is about 7 years old, and, at 97 lbs., is a ‘wannabe lap dog’. He loves to curl up on the couch beside you (if allowed) or as close as he can get to you. He is gentle with children, and gets along well with the female German Shepherd, elderly Shi Tzu and 2 cats he is currently living with.

He loves his walks, playing ball and rolling in the grass. He will carry on conversations with you, but is favored by neighbors because he does not bark. He LOVES his fluffy pillow, and will often slip away for some quality pillow time. He and his foster sister draw lots of smiles and attention when they’re walked around local outdoor malls and make patio stops for fast food or Starbucks. Don’t even think about getting in the car without him, because chances are he will be in it before you are. He really can go anywhere you go, because he truly is a dream dog.

If you think you may be destined to be the light of Legend’s life, are ready to love him unconditionally, and lavish him with the affection and attention he so richly deserves, please contact Teresa via email at baltao@sbcglobal.net. Don't forget to fill out our online application.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
