Maverick
Maverick came into the shelter with his sister, Dakota, a much smaller version of himself. When he and his sister came into the shelter, they were both so afraid that the initial evaluations could not be done. But underneath the fear, the attendants could see a very sweet personality, so their evaluations were rescheduled for another day.
In the shelter Maverick and Dakota were placed in separate kennels with strange dogs. They were reunited for the first time on the day of their rescue. This was a very happy time for them, not the usual rough-housing that you see when two dogs who haven't seen each other for a long time get together. It was lots of kisses and staying close to each other. He rode in quietly for the entire two-hour ride back to San Diego. When we arrived, he was too afraid to get out of the crate. He planted all 89 pounds of himself and would not budge. The volunteer was able to finally coax him out of his crate when he saw that his sister was getting out also.
Despite his size, Maverick is a big LOVE. He loves people. He loves other dogs, and he loves his sister, Dakota.
Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way! We are asking a $400.00 donation for Maverick's adoption.
If you are interested in meeting Maverick, please fill out our online application. An adoption counselor will contact you. Due to the overwhelming response we get to puppies, we will not be able to provide information until we have an application on file.
The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems. Donate today using PayPal! Help us save dogs!
