Midnight

Midnight at the shelter.

Midnight at Coastal - Just beginning to feel better and look at the difference!

No leisurely walks, no warm bed, no good food, no cookies or pats on the head for this old boy. Midnight wore out his welcome as he became older, and ended up being photographed against a tacky fake flower background, looking trustingly at the photographer, not knowing he had just three days to live. Even other rescues sympathetic to seniors couldn't find room for him.

We're not sure how senior dogs end up in shelters in such numbers in their golden years. People may not be able to deal emotionally with their pet's coming infirmity. We know our supporters can love and appreciate the value of an older dog who gave his heart and loyalty all his life, only to end up in a small, cold cement run with an unatural death imminent.

To our wonder and great appreciation, there are people waiting to jump in and put a warm glow on the last years of dogs like Midnight. Coastal volunteers couldn't turn their backs on this boy. Dogs like Midnight count on us, and we count on you.

The reason we can rescue dogs like Midnight is because of your support. Please consider making a donation here today to help Midnight. Each and every healthy day is precious to this boy, and to those of us who love German Shepherds. We're also looking for a comfy, warm place to for this gorgeous senior while he waits to go to his forever home. Can you foster Midnight? If you can, please contact Beth via email at eacalder@yahoo.com as soon as possible. Every day, every walk, every pat on the head is precious.

UPDATE 4/26/06:

What we wouldn't give to have known Midnight in his prime! He is still stunning today. When we brought Midnight into Coastal, we weren't sure if he still had the will to live. But over the last two weeks, his foster mom says he's proven that he's still got much more than just the will to live - he still has the capacity to enjoy life. We'll be honest. Midnight is unstable in the rear and wobbles, he drags his hind feet a bit and so can't walk too far on concrete, and will certainly benefit from a very good diet, supplementation, and perhaps even accupunture. He loves his tennis ball - he doesn't care that his mode of operation is less than ideal - you throw a ball, he can and will go and get it. He's good with other animals, and he just wants a comfortable and caring home in which to live out the rest of his days. Midnight is hoping to be adopted, but would also be happy to be in a foster situation where he can get some love and attention. Can you give this sweet older gent his fondest wish?
