Ophelia

Ophelia is an amazing girl. She is less than a year old and had the bad luck to impale herself on a fence. Unfortunately her owners felt she got up there so she could get down. What could have been a minor wound became a major injury. Her family also felt it was too much work to care for the wound and over time it began to fester. They finally took her to the vet and upon hearing how grave her condition was, her family called us to help. If we couldn't take her, she was going to be put to sleep!

Even though our number of dogs is at an all time high and our funds are low, we couldn't turn our back on this sweet young girl. The gapping wound in her thigh was bigger than a fist and not only filled with pus, but the flesh was rotting. Ophelia had to be anesthetized to clean out the wound.

Here is a link to photos of how the wound looked AFTER being cleaned! These photos are very GRAPHIC due to gory suchject matter!! Due to the extent of the infection her leg had to be left open for several days to flush the infection out before it could be sutured. Drains were also needed to allow excess fluid out.

In spite of her prior treatment, Ophelia is happy and loving little girl. Ophelia turns one year old in October - we have her AKC registration papers too. She is getting better each day and has a happy, bouncy personality, she's housebroken and eager to learn. We are hoping over time her wound heals completely and we can find her a home that will treasure her like the jewel that she is.
