Piper

Piper was convicted of jumping the fence and sentenced to die on May 2nd, 2008. When we learned that she pled the puppy defense, we started the appeal process immediately and got her sprung out of the slammer.

Piper is one of a kind. She has a lovely, licorice colored coat and classic German Shepherd good looks, but she has one distinctive feature that sets her apart from all of the other black GSD’s. Socks! Piper has cute, sand-colored beauty marks that look just like little socks. Just serves to remind you that this exotic beauty has a silly side and loves to make people smile.

Piper had her coming out party at the Encinitas adoption event the day after we broke her out of the pound. She was so desperate to get adopted that she barked, “Take me home,” to anyone who would listen. When she realized that the other dogs were getting more attention by being calm and composed, she changed her tune. Our top dog (so to speak) was very impressed with her behavior given that it was probably the first time that Piper had been in the company of so many other dogs. Instead of being shy or defensive, Piper actually looked to the other dogs as models for good behavior. What an amazing learner! Her handler claimed that she was a joy to be with. Once she figured out how to fit into the pack, she was eager to please him and displayed her new found confidence by walking proudly beside him on the leash.

Once she finds a loving family, Piper will demonstrate her appreciation by following them everywhere they go and greeting them at the front door with tail-wagging when they return home from trips which she isn’t able to accompany them on. With lots of TLC, Piper won’t give escape a second thought because she won’t have any reason to want to leave home.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
