Pirate

Someone once said, "A girl without freckles is like a night without stars." Pirate would like to remind everyone that he's not a girl but he does think his freckles make him quite special. And they certainly make him stand out in a crowd of German Shepherds! Pirate is about eighteen months of age and was relinquished by his owner because he could no longer afford to feed him. As you can see from the photographs, he is a bit on the thin side but a good and constant diet of healthy dog food will soon put some weight on his slender frame. His behavior is still somewhat like that of a puppy but he is very, very sweet. Won't you make the stars come out and welcome Pirate into your home?

Update 12/26/09
As you can see from these photographs, Pirate has had a wonderful time at his foster home these past few days. No doubt about it but "a very friendly and happy dog" is an accurate description that comes from his foster "mom". It is also clear that he is high energy and very playful. Although Pirate was in the snow this holiday season, we hear that he likes playing on the beach a lot. At dog beach, he gets along well with other dogs although he may be a bit shy and submissive when he first meets a potential new doggie friend. Likewise, he is a little nervous in new surroundings but as soon as he gets comfortable, he is fine. After all, there's nothing wrong with being cautious in new surroundings or when you meet potential new friends, right? On the other hand, he is very curious, alert, and interested in what is going on in the world around him. At every visit to the beach, Pirate has had a great time and plays a lot with the other dogs. He likes company and we think he'd do very well with another dog in his life.

Want to hear more great news about this handsome boy? He loves people and loves getting a lot of attention. He is good with children. Pirate is housebroken and knows basic commands such as "sit" and "lay down". A little training is in order though as far as walking on a leash, coming when called (it's so easy to get distracted and forget your name when something interesting comes along, right??), and not jumping on people or furniture. He is just so happy to see his human family and he gets so excited to go outside to play that he doesn't always remember that he is a pretty big dog. His favorite toy is a little furry duck that he carries around in his mouth. As long as he has plenty of toys and gets plenty of exercise, he doesn't chew on anything in the house. Pirate can be a bit of a picky eater so he's been getting his meals in a quiet area in the house. Otherwise, he finds other, more fun things to do - like playing - and forgets that it is meal time! Pirate is waiting for you to welcome him into your life.
