Diego

Diego was pulled from the Devore Shelter in San Bernardino on Feb 22, a few hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized. He is a neutered male, 60 pounds, German Shepherd mix, we think he is about 2 years old. He has a license, and is current on his shots. He loves to ride in the car, he's potty trained, from what we've seen, he would do best if he is the only dog in the home. He hasn't been around children that we know of, and probably be better in a home with older children, or no children as he has a lot of energy!

He hasn't been formally trained from what we can tell, although we don't know his history, he was a stray when he was picked up by animal control. He is very sweet and has a lot of energy. He learns fast, and will need to have someone who would like to spend the time to train him. He sits on command, but overall, he's very exuberant! He has POTENTIAL written all over him. We took him to a private training/behavior session at Gaines Humane Society with Kyle, one of their rock star trainers, after that session we both agreed that he is super smart and can totally be trained. he's just a bit rough around the edges right now. She says "he's a teenager no one has taken any time with, a gentle giant"

Having said that, I realize it's going to be a little more difficult to place him-- when I'm sure there are many other dogs who have had more opportunities for love and attention than he has had-- and have a few more manners. We are working with him the best we can. I don't want to place him just to "place him"... perhaps in a situation where he might fail until he gets a good grip on his manners. He settles really fast, and is super affectionate, but he still jumps up at first and is VERY tall :) I think he would knock over/scare children.

As far as cats, he has been very curious, we have a cat that sleeps in our little guest house in our back garden. Tarzan our kitty sits at the window in the mornings, Diego goes out and sits and looks at him and doesn't react at all, other than just a little curious.
