Coastal German Shepherd Rescue

Ricochet (Ricky to her friends!) was deemed "unadoptable" by the shelter due to her mouthiness - what does that mean? It doesn't mean she bites, it doesn't mean she is aggressive....it means that she uses her mouth to try to get her way. This is a very typical behavior for puppies - because Ricky is 8 mos old, it means that she hasn't been provided any rules or boundaries in her very short life, which translated to a very real death sentence. Thankfully, we made room for her since rescue was her only hope.

Ricky is in a foster home where she is having an absolute ball with the younger foster dogs in the home. She races with abandon from one end of the lot to the other, she wrestles endlessly and is given boundaries in a pack that has balance and leadership. She will be fine with older children but would likely be a bit too much for toddlers. An obedience class is a must for this whipper snapper. Like most pups, she has a chewing obsession and she is being supplied with cow hooves and other appropriate toys so that she doesn't go for shoes, sandals and the like.

Ricky has taken quickly to sleeping all night (uninterrupted) in a crate. She even likes to be in a really big crate with her best buddy so they can snooze between flag football games! We are guessing that she's got some collie/australian shepherd in there somewhere - she will be a medium large adult with a nice big coat of hair! Her white ankle boots are very "in" right now!

Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
