Black JackUpdate 6/24/06: We've had Black Jack's left eye checked out by an opthalmologist and, while he is blind in that eye, we received very encouraging news! We were fearful that his eye would need to be removed but the doctor thinks with a daily antibiotic/anti inflammatory, the eye will reduce somewhat in size and be fine. She believes that he sustained some heavy duty trauma (not surprising since he was an abuse case) which tore his cornea in half and he lost his vision. The eye doesn't bother him nor does it slow him down! He's ready for his new forever home!!!
We were able to get this boy a bath - check out his "after" photos!!!! While the shelter paperwork tells us that Black Jack is 4 years old, we find that hard to believe. Black Jack was lucky enough to go into a foster home after his first adoption event - an event where he was terrified of any contact at the beginning. By the end of the event, he was seeking out head scratches! He has been an absolute delight in his foster home. We were told that he was "fractious" with other dogs, but in his foster home, he is romping and playing like a puppy with the youngest member of the pack. He is very respectful of bossy females and doesn't want any trouble - he really just wants to play. He has yet to have an accident, slept quietly all night in a crate and has been quite a gentleman. Black Jack doesn't understand any commands but he is learning sit as a start. He has barked a couple of times with reason but otherwise, he's folded right into a rather large pack of dogs!
