Sabrina on March 15, 2006 - one month in foster care!

On February 15, 2006, we found little Sabrina in a San Diego shelter in horrifying condition.

Many of you have watched as Sabrina has made amazing progress with us.

Tonight, May 7, 2006, we're taking Sabrina's tale of woe off of her web page. She's beyond fully recovered and prefers not to dwell in the past any longer. She's a very healthy, vibrant, energetic and happy little 32 pound bundle of terrierish shepherdish something or other, looking like a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a German Shepherd puppy.

Sabrina is very affectionate and you can tell you mean the world to her. She's also very clever. You can see her thinking out problems. When a new foster dog comes in the house, she stays several feet away, watching and analyzing them. Then she makes little forays into their space and gauges their reaction. She plays the big dogs like a fiddle. She is nimble and can zoom in, steal a toy and be gone in a little cloud of dust before her German Shepherd foster siblings can blink.

Unless Sabrina is asleep, she has a toy or a rib bone in her mouth, or she's up to something or other. She's an active little pupita.

Sabrina loves to go for walks. She's still a teeny bit shy out in the big world, but you can barely tell that she used to be afraid of cars going by or dogs barking - the more she goes for walks the more confident she becomes. She's particularly funny walking between two German Shepherds with her short tail straight up in the air and waiving back and forth like it should have a flag on it. Sabrina wants you to know that she's not too fond of linoleum. Not that she can't do linoleum, she's just not the best skater in town.

Sabrina is a smart, sweet, happy little clown who has just enough shyness to make her adoreable. She's truely all sugar and spice. And Sabrina is dreaming of finding her forever home with a family who will love her for just who she is. She gets along very well with other dogs, male and female, and her dream home includes another playful dog to keep Sabrina busy and happy. Will that home be yours?

You can read a very interesting article on canine nutrition and the skin problems that can result from poor nutrition here. Although we don’t endorse feeding ProPlan, we’re sure you’ll find the article instructive in explaining exactly what happened to Sabrina, and how she was able to recover so quickly with good nutrition.
