Sapphire

Sapphire is a precious stone which is the birthstone for those born in September. We don't know how our Sapphire got her name but we do know her family thought she was precious. Unfortunately, they lost their home and had to relinquish her. Sapphire was described by her relinquishers as very well behaved, mellow, superb with people, with wonderful manners. She loves, loves to go for walks.

Shortly after arriving at Rescue, Sapphire moved on to the next phase of her life and moved into a foster home. She now has a new brother whose name is Gaston. He's another foster dog who recently joined the household. The first week may have been a little trying - Sapphire had the same thoughts as a child does when a new sibling arrives in the house - she is now a happy camper in a two dog household. The right amount of attention and, if necessary, a swift correction and all is well. Foster parents come down each morning to be greeted with lots and lots of doggie attention. It is remarkable to watch Sapphire go to one person while Gaston goes to the other person with love and a morning "Hello". Then they switch over in a twinkling of an eye without ever bumping into each other! When her foster mom comes home, she will find the two of them napping quite contentedly side by side. While Sapphire has learned to be more active now that Gaston is in her life (the two of them will sometimes go on little hunting parties), it seems to be taking longer for Gaston to learn Sapphire's good manners! Although Sapphire has shown more affection at the beginning to the women in her life, she now responds well to her foster dad and will come when he calls. She just wants to be petted and to be very happy. A recent grooming and cut for summer means that she is even prettier than before! Recently her foster family came upon a new discovery. Sapphire likes to join in whenever an ambulance and police car passes by. Her howls are very on key so she is quite the musical dog.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $400. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
