Scarlet

Scarlet & Hannah had a very rough 3 months that we know of. They were dumped in the High Desert by their family, no food or water or shade for several months. They ate what they could, and slept under terrible conditions, not to mention not having any water or shade. Finally after 3 months of roaming around 10 acres of land, the owner of the property decided to feed them and give them water (yes, this was after 3 long months). He immediately made a call to a local rescue group to help take the dogs, the woman (Debbie) is a rescuer of exotic animals and had never dealt with dog rescue in her life.

Debbie and her husband drove to this man's property, went up to Hanna, and all Hanna could do was lay flat on the ground, emaciated and extremely weak. She let Debbie's husband pick her up in his arms and carry her into the car without a fight. Scarlet on the other hand was lured into a crate to be trapped. Debbie reached in and picked Scarlet up, placed her on her lap and she too didn't fight back. She sat quietly on Debbie's lap on the way home.

Hannah and Scarlet are well adjusted dogs considering what they went thru for 3 months, who knows what their life was before that. They lived with Debbie for about 7 weeks, got medical treatment, a soft bed, water and food. All they did was eat, drink (a ton) and sleep for the first few weeks. And now they are not only happy dogs, but healthy ones to boot!

We don't know if they are mother and daughter, but we think Scarlet has some Dutch Shepherd in her. They learned to use a doggie door very quickly. They are protective of Debbie's property, although they become quite friendly once the visitors are brought into the property by Debbie. Hanna is described to calm and is happiest when she's relaxing which she does a lot of, Scarlet on the other was described to us as being the nosy one. They whine when they need to go out, and so far no accidents in the house.

Update:
Scarlett is just a baby! Probably about 10 months old and is very afraid of the world when Hanna is not around. She clearly draws her strength from Hanna. Scarlet is very timid and shy. We don’t think she’s been exposed to anything other than Hanna. All she wanted to do at her first adoption event was hide in the crate, or behind a table or behind Hanna. She now lives in a foster home with 6 other dogs, and we think she is learning more and more everyday from the rest of her pack. We’ll keep you posted!

Update 5/21/07
Scarlett has come out of her shell!!!! She has blossomed to a very gentle and affectionate girl. Her trust in the Human Species has been restored thanks to her foster Mom!!!! Scarlett has a partner in crime, it’s Misha!!! They love to play chase, they love to tease each other or just hang out together. When they both get tired from the day’s activity and need a 10 minute break, both will sit next to each other until such time the other one is ready . . . and how do we know this? One of them will start pawing the other one’s back and sure enough you will the Dynamic Duo have paired back up to start their adventure for the day!

It makes it less stressful in the morning, imagine yourself sipping your coffee and watching them do their own routine of exercise, or even at the end of the day when you come home from work and are too tired to go for a walk with the dogs, have a glass of wine instead and watch the girls play. Then walking the dogs is more of an option for you than mandatory.

If you are looking for 2 wonderful dogs who would keep each other company 24/7, look no further, these two will not only entertain you but will be the best Dynamic Duo you’ll ever meet (or Devil Duo’s depending on what trouble they get themselves into).
