Tacoma
Tacoma did have an opportunity to live in a foster home for a while. She was a happy dog and we learned more about her from her foster mom. The foster home had a dog whose name is Tucson. He was adopted from Rescue in 2005 when he was a wee boy so he told Tacoma all about the wonderful experiences he'd had in the past four years. Tacoma had never met a dog who was so happy to meet her. In her diary, she wrote, "No one has ever acted so happy to see me before—I loved him right away. He answered my play bow with scampering all around me and we didn’t stop for over an hour except to drink. I love this guy." During her stay in the foster home, Tacoma learned that standing on her hind legs to get things off high places wasn't acceptable doggie behavior. She overcame her concern about going for rides and soon learned that it's okay to jump into a car without help from her foster mom. In closing, her foster mom described her as a "happy, good natured dog, cheerful dog who is free with her affection once she knows you a little bit."
Tacoma may have loved Tucson a lot but now she has a new best doggie friend. His name is Scully and the two of them share a kennel. More accurately, Scully is the love of her life and there's no end to the kisses that she gives him. They've been invited to hydrotherapy swimming sessions on Friday afternoons, and we're happy to report that with each session, Tacoma is swimming better and better. Tacoma and Scully are picked up by one of our volunteers and ride freely in the back of her vehicle en route to and from their swim session. No need for a crate for either of these swim kids! During their most recent swim session. Tacoma watched as Scully swam alone for a while but when he was busy swimming to fetch a squeaky toy, she couldn't wait any longer. She just walked into the pool by herself, ready to swim and play. Then around and around they went, swimming in tandem. They'd stop periodically to relax which is when Tacoma would lay her head on Scully's back or Scully would lay his head on Tacoma's back. They were never far from each other. When swimming ended, it was time for some play time together. What a wonderful and fun afternoon!
If you have a swimming pool and if you like afternoon swim parties, Tacoma would love an invitation to your home. Not just to swim and play in the pool but hopefully to live with you forever. In fact, she just said that she'd love a forever home even there weren't a pool!
