Tiki

Tiki gets along famously with everyone. Her predicament is not unlike many of the dogs we see but it is always heartbreaking to find a senior that has been turned in to a shelter. One of our supporters implored us to take her in and, while seniors are so difficult to place, we had to agree with him that she is worth the effort.

Tiki weighs well over 100 lbs, she moves slowly but she still has so much love to give. This is truly a golden girl who doesn't ask for much in return for the devotion that she can provide. Opening your home to a senior can be one of the most rewarding experiences - they don't dig, chew, bark, destroy - all they ask for is a soft bed and a scratch on the head.

4/3/09 update from Tiki's foster family:
After several weeks in a foster home, Tiki is a changed woman! For the first 2 - 3 weeks, she refused to come in the house and rarely moved. Today, with good nutrition and medical care, Tiki LOVES to be in on the action. Her favorite spot is a dog bed in the kitchen so that she can be near her human family and also see what is going on with the other dogs. She is completely housebroken and just a general joy to be around. We used to think that she was much older than the 7 years listed on her paperwork but now we believe this is the right age as the wear & tear of her previous life has melted away.

Dogs like Tiki make such wonderful additions to the family. A mature dog doesn't ask for a lot but gives so much - Tiki won't chew your shoes, dig holes in the yard, have house accidents, bark excessively, pull on a leash - she likes short walks and her happiest moments are by your side.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $400 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
