Trooper
Trooper now lives in a foster home with a foster sister who has become his partner in crime. They get along so well that they are being called the Dynamic Duo (well, that’s if they’re behaving). The one thing that Trooper’s foster Mom has discovered is that Troop is not really a fan of being in a crate (no crates for the big boy). He loves to hang out in the kitchen while Mom is cooking, Mom says he likes to supervise her and make sure she’s using the correct ingredients for his Chicken and Rice combo. He is extremely affectionate and loves people and dogs and, actually he loves everything!
Update on Trooper from his Foster Mom:
What a different dog than the first couple of days here. I cannot believe that there isn’t someone out there with a broken heart over losing this dog.
When I picked him up after a 5 day stay at the vet for pneumonia, and before that a stay in the kennel, and before that a stay at a shelter, and before that being picked up as a stray, he was very hyper and unsure of himself. He broke out of the airline crate and had quite an adventure in my house while I was gone for an hour. He was miserable in the new crate and would have broken it as well, so we had him sleep with one of the kids each night. He has been very good and no potty accidents. The rest of the time he has spent with me.
He has been here 6 days. I would rename him Teddy. He is a big teddy bear. Each morning he sleeps in a little later. He has learned to wait at the door to go outside. He and Ginger know to only play outside and love to chase each other at full speed. He no longer puts his paws on the counter or table. He accepts ‘no’ if he picks up something that isn’t his. I am certain he could be trained to retrieve the morning paper. He has learned not to jump up on people. He retrieves his toy or ball and drops it at your feet. He doesn’t just come when called, he comes running! He sits on command (maybe a little prompting with sit). Has learned to jump up into my Pilot and ride quietly in the back. When Ginger growls at him to correct him, he wags his tail and licks her ears. He loves soft and squeakie toys. He likes to nap on the floor, or sometimes the couch. He has calmed down so much that he really enjoys having some good naps, plus he is probably tired from playing chase. He takes food very gently from my hand. He is equally happy to meet men or women and people respond to him really well because he wags his tail and put his ears back just a little and they know he wants a friendly pat and head scratch. He has gained 5 lbs
That’s all—oh except he is still learning not to sit on your head if you lie down on the couch. He just wants to snuggle, and he corrects a bit slowly on this, so I would worry about a small child at this point with him. But, once he gets this he will be fine.
