Yeager
By chance this volunteer came across his photograph while looking through the list of shelter dogs needing to be rescued. He had been at the shelter for a long time, but for some reason had been overlooked and was not on the list of dogs in danger. His long legs, big ears, and fur shedding in clumps reminded her of her girl that she rescued from a shelter nine years ago. His ID number was added to the long list of dogs needed to be saved with Coastal's name on them. With a guarantee of Sponsorship, there was no way this boy was going to be left behind.
When our Shelter transporters arrived at the shelter to pick up the dogs, Yeager was on his way to be euthanized. In spite of the fact that Coastal's name was on him, someone had decided that his time was up. If our volunteer had arrived ten minutes later he would have been euthanized. The stars lined up in his favor and he was spared. Again it seemed he had a guardian angel looking out for him! So he was named in honor of this special girl, who not only looked after so many dogs and puppies while she was alive, but seemed to be watching out for this boy too.
Yeager gets along well with all dogs (he shared a kennel at the shelter with three other dogs and he did well under very crowded conditions). He is super sweet, very gentle, and very loving. At his first adoption event, he was great with everyone.
Update 9/01/09
Yeager happily left the vet clinic with his new foster mom. He went home to a house full of lovable critters including two Golden Retrievers, a super bossy but wonderful German Shepherd, cats, and horses. Yeager wasn't quite certain what he'd got himself into, especially when he saw the horses! Since he didn't really want to eat, Yeager's foster mom is making such wonderful food for him that he's begun to think of himself as the Galloping Gourmet. How many dogs do you know who have especially prepared meals of boiled chicken, cottage cheese, some cooked rice and just a bit of wet canned food? It's not a surprise that he has gained three pounds in four days.
If you are ready for more good news, keep reading. Yeager is well mannered. He is house broken (even when he's been allowed to be out of the crate at night) and easily learned to use the doggie door. He will stay in the crate at night, but always enjoys being welcomed to your human bed. If you want someone to be alert all the time but especially at night, Yeager's the boy for you.
He doesn't jump on house guests. He doesn't climb on furniture or chew up shoes and even though his tail is always wagging, he doesn't knock anything off the coffee table! When you pet him (he's always ready and willing to give and receive love), he'll put one paw in your lap or on your knee. And he absolutely loves all the doggie beds he finds throughout the house (that's what happens when three really big dogs live together!) and you can always find him in one of them.
By the way, in addition to living with dogs, cats, and horses in his foster home, he's living with kids and he's great around them.
Yeager's picture touched the heart of our volunteer. With that kind of love and having a guardian angel looking over him, Yeager knows the stars will continue to line up in his favor. Won't you add this wonderful boy to your home?
Update 9/07/09
At Rescue's Saturday adoption event, Yeager and his pack of canine friends came for a visit. Everyone commented on how happy he looks, how his eyes are so bright, his coat is shinier, and did you see that waggy tail??!! His foster dad is in awe of how wonderful a dog Yeager is!
