Zeke
After Zeke’s quarantine period, the shelter workers couldn’t wait to get their hands on this little boy (remember, if a dog is in Quarantine, nobody can touch the dog, so yes, he had to stay in a kennel by himself for 14 days). They were horrified when he was pulled out of his kennel, this little 12 pound puppy was infested with Ticks! He was covered with ticks from his ears all the way to his paws. In reading the medical record from the shelter, they stated that it took them a good hour pulling ticks off Zeke, they were in between in toes, in underarm, ears, top of his nose, everywhere!!!
Thankfully to one of Coastal’s volunteers who saw Zeke, all of that is history, he is now in a foster home with 5 other older siblings to play with. He got a bath the first day and loved it! Here’s a quick update from his foster Mommy:
Z-key is what we call this little Love Bug! I have to say that in my history of fostering pup’s Zeke is one pup that I am very impressed by. I am amazed at how quickly he catches on to routine. There are times that I second guess myself, is he really 3 months old?? Then I check his teeth 2-3x a day, why you ask? Because I am in awe at how fast he picks up on things. If teeth were not a determining factor (and it’s all baby teeth!) I would put him around 7-8 months . . . his brain operates as though he is an older dog than 3 months old. And yes, he still jumps but what puppy doesn’t?
Z-key loves to hang out with the rest of his siblings, he listens well to them when told what to do and what not to do, and he catches on with each correction, he doesn’t seem to repeat the mistake. He is well rounded and not an obnoxious pup, he will tell you when he’s done playing (he’ll curl up to any bed and sleep), and he will tell you when he is ready to go back on the saddle and play with his brothers.
I don’t believe Z-key was exposed to any toys. His biggest thing is to chew on rocks and steal shoes. After seeing this, I gave him a ton of toys, and all he did was stare at the pile and look at me, I squeaked a toy and he ran the other way with his tail in between his legs. Thank goodness for his foster brothers and sisters, they taught him that squeaky and squawky toys are a good thing, and so are these little round things that bounce and roll. He watched them with amazement, and shortly after, he figured out that toys are a good thing, the next thing I know he was on top of all the squeaky squawky toys chewing on them, he looked like he just hit the jackpot.
Little Z-key is looking for a home that would give him the love and attention he’s been looking for. He is looking for a family that will welcome all the love he is dying to give . . .and more importantly he is looking for a family that has a basket of toys for him to play with and a brother and sister he can follow around and learn from.
Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way! If you are interested in meeting me, please contact Teresa via email at baltao@sbcglobal.net. Don't forget to fill out our online application.
The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems. Donate today using PayPal! Help us save dogs!
